The Hero's Backpack Relic and "Orb(s) of the same type"

I wanted to voice confusion over the phrasing of the description for the Hero's Backpack Relic and its actual function. It seems that the bonus has only applied for me when the orbs in my deck are identical, as was my surprise when I had a slime-type orb build and received no benefit. Is this an issue I am having or a misunderstanding of the relic? If I look up user comments and guides it does state that it applies to identical orbs but that is not what the description says and it's bad for my builds so I don't like it.

It only works for consecutive similar orbs so if you have five stones but another orb in between all of them, it's no buff, but 5 stones in a row is +5/+10 then +4/+8 for the next etc.
