Anyone Else Stop Playing Because it's a Horrifying Experinece?
The blood doesn't bother me except for the draining of the bodies, and the developer didn't just stop there he added in the noise of the pump which forced me walk behind the front desk to just get away from that noise. It frays the nerves.

I've never been all that great with dead bodies but to have me touch, and get them ready to be burned along with demonic possession made me cringe. Two things I don't like doing is looking at a dead body, and the other is dealing with possession, and couple that with all of the freaky things which happen in the dark corners of every nook, and cranny of the mortuary had me reach my limit of self abuse.

Mortuary Assistant is seriously one of the most scariest games I've ever played, and I've played many but nothing even comes close.

Mortuary Assistant has the same shock value as the movie Exorcist, and the original Evil Dead. The visceral shock of these two movies effected people to the point that some folks had to go get some help.

I played the game for about 3 hours (maybe a bit longer than that), and I had to give up because it scared me so bad. I have no idea who this person is who made this game but he has a talent for knowing what scares people.

Only reason why I haven't uninstalled it is because there is nothing else like it sold today on steam or anywhere else for that matter, also I enjoy the thought I might return to it for a scare once in a while.

To end it all off, the game haunted me for many days afterwards. It's one of the most scariest experiences I've ever had, and that's saying a lot.

@Dev: I appreciate you're ability but I can't thank You for scaring me so badly.

So it all comes down to a question: are you going to quit or will you play again? It doesn't matter how scary it is, if you like it you'll come back. The fact that you didn't uninstall it suggests you'll come back.
A roller coaster is thrilling but most people like it and only a few actually stay away from it forever after trying it maybe once.
As long as it's safe (it's just a game after all) you might decide to enjoy the trip again.

It will take time for me to recover from the insanity of it all. It's well done as far as a horror is concerned, and does a far better job than the vast majority of horror movies out there. It's the aftertaste which stuck with me.

Not telling you what to do, I'll just tell you what I've done with my wife (context: we're both gamers, 1 pc next to the other one, she hates horror games especially those with jump scares while i love them) in order to be able to play without her leaving the room: I've been watching with her some funny YouTube videos of streamers playing the game and getting scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, big muscled bearded men screaming like schoolgirls, until she started laughing at what was happening. Now i can play on my PC and she's not scared anymore watching me play :)
You could try watching streamers as well, just a hint, you don't have to.

I found it genuinely so horrifying the first couple of times, almost turned the game off but I think this is the type of horror game where you get used to the scares pretty quickly and it doesn’t affect you as much anymore. If that is any comfort. I feel like I have come across most of the jump scares a few times by now so it doesn’t affect me as much.

The grandma like an example always show up for me so I’m more like ok can you get done talking so I can do my job now? :divmeh:

I still have yet to get the rest of the endings so we will see how that goes

I got desensitized to all of the scares pretty fast. Cheap scares never worked on me. I prefer psychological horror like early Silent Hill. That said, I really enjoy this game.

I don't think the scares here are cheap. They get repetitive but that's inevitable. On the contrary I find them very well thought out. A cheap scare is when there's a sudden BOOO! while there's silence and you're maybe concentraded reading or watching something. It's cheap cos anyone would be startled by a sudden loud noise. The good scares are when you look at a corner and it's empty then you turn the camera around and after a second you look at the same corner again and there's a silent face simply looking at you and smiling. That's just creepy as ♥♥♥♥ and brilliant.

I agree, it is very scary and that's why I play with lights on

I stepped in, hoping to be terrified (First 2hrs of Phasmophobia had me nearly pissing myself and noping out after a few ghost events). But honestly.. Haven't been scared yet. Only one point made me jump (Demon was hiding in the shadows, staring at me. I noticed peripherally, which is what caused the startle).

It's good though. I enjoy trying to deduce which body it is inhabiting and which demon it is!

I adore this game, it's not really so terrifying I can't play it. It does have its moments, but for the most part its the lingering creepiness that keeps me playing. I don't like cheap chase mechanic horror games like Outlast, where you have nothing to defend yourself with and you're forced to run and hide. if anything I prefer to fight first if I can, but those games don't allow that.

I am a real trainee mortician/embalmer, I started a few months ago.... and this, whilst portraying some elements of caring for the deceased, does not even remotely portray what we actually do as morticians!

its fun to use though......it could be a little bit more accurate.

I've quit in the middle of a run because of fear.. not gonna lie. I have major caulrophobia, so that clown on the Halloween update absolutely scars me. Ugh! This game is just that good I guess lol :GhostScared:

Quit the game once while playing alone and only just came back to it in the last week or so while I’ve had friends online watching the stream. It helped a lot. My friends like to heckle and so it makes me a lot braver.

Imma gonna getting this game soon..ish, but as your psychic walls to play this game:

try take comfort from fact that possession is not possible in real world. There is no spirits who can take control of..anything.

Then remains the fear of bodies..I have this too and still tempted to buy this. good old corpse horror is so rare nowadays, it was normal at 60s-80s..still remember as kid being horrified on every funerals in horror series/movies in tv.

Steam store trailer of this game reminds me of those old horror clips in tv, a lil bit realism merged with fantasy.

Only comfort on that fear of body issue is just realizing it's a game, not documentary.

In game Thief zombies was horrifying for me, it made playing those maps very hard and slow with stress levels high, hated them and thought why sneaking game had those.

I started to make more closer contacts on those NPCs and duelled with them, died with them after duelling ofc, ran past and lured them to traps and..just walked with them at safe distance..those are slow...kind a desensitized myself to those foes in that game.

At the end I noticed that they are just like ANY other npcs in game, be it living or not , human or animal.

Soon I LOVED all zombie maps..it was total 180 degree turn :).
And nowadays I think zombies BELONGS in Thief game as much as Hammerite faction.
