It will happen to all of us eventually, once our time is up, we will all move on to the other side and leave our bodies behind and during that time our bodies are empty shells, demons can try to take over them but like I said they won't because there is little to no point in doing so as bodies are mostly buried or burnt after a funeral so the demon can't really do much with it. That's why in certain religions, it is advised to rush burial so that after the person has moved onto the other side, their body doesn't become a possible vessel for any sort of paranormal entity, demons or otherwise.
While your soul/spirit is occupying your body, it's very difficult for the demon to wrestle with you and take over your body, at most it can hijack your body and temporarily put your soul/spirit in a timed-out state, that's what we call a possession but eventually you will return to your own self and the demon is likely to move on. But if your soul/spirit leaves your body, then that opens doors for all sort of potential scenarios. Most of the time your soul/spirit only leaves your body when your body expires/dies. I had a surgery a while back and they put me to sleep and that was one of my biggest fears, I wasn't put out for long but during that time I was told by the nurses that I was saying certain things (in different languages) that I have no knowledge of, which freaked me out.
There were cases where people actually left their bodies temporarily while asleep or in coma and when they woke up they were completely different people with no knowledge of who they are, not sure if that story was true but I heard about it a long time ago about people waking up out of coma and not being themselves. It's not memory loss, it's being kicked out of your own body by other entities. If you stay out of your body for too long, you will invite other entities to take your body and getting back into a body that is already occupied is not easy. That's why I am afraid of coma and other medical/drug induced sleeps, because while you soul/spirit is chilling up there, something else could have taken over your body while you were gone.
I had surgery a while back and was put to sleep, when I woke up a nurse was telling me that I was speaking in 4 different languages and calling out for someone. I have no memory of it nor do I speak 4 different languages, goes to show that while you are not in your body, it's entirely possible that something else could have temporarily entered it, whether it's for good or bad intentions, you are still being hijacked.
These are things that the rationality of modern day "science" can never explain and they will call you insane or a madman if you were to talk about it.
Now I am not saying you should never go to sleep, what I am saying is when you go to sleep, don't wander off too far from your body.

No, if you actually ready some articles that anesthesiologists have wrote then you would know that what they use to put you to sleep messes with your brain in a very real and very crazy way.
Modern science does actually explain how this works.....contrary to your statement.
You would see that we "Don't leave our bodies" when put under anesthesia. Souls have to actually exist in order for that to happen. But this drug does make you do weird things when you're under and it has to do with the drug nothing more.
So if Rebecca fails and ends up possessed, Rebecca's fate ends up becoming the same as the possessed woman in the basement? So in other words, she can't afford failure otherwise Raymond would lock her up just like he did with that woman in the basement right?
