If it's just direct hdmi to tv it shouldn't be any different than just playing on pc with a monitor (no additional overhead to tax it).
And your PC's graphics card, do you know its make and model? Are you using display outputs from your PC that come straight from the motherboard (using some kind of embedded graphics like Intel HD)? These systems will be taxed a lot more than those with a discrete graphics card, and maybe could result in contributing to a timing glitch elsewhere making it freeze.
Also when you say it froze I presume you mean literally, screen showed a non-moving image, you couldn't turn/press anything anymore, but it didn't move from there? Or did it ever crash and close by itself?
In either case, if you could open a command prompt window on your machine and type in this and press Enter, does it work or does it complain it doesn't exist?
cd /d "%tmp%\darkstone digital\the mortuary assistant\crashes"
If it works/exists, navigating to the same path in Windows File Explorer and zipping the contents for sharing with the game's devs could be helpful for them to track down issues.
Dead XP's discord server and channel where they have been collecting information about problems with the game (and may also be able to offer further help/suggestions) is here:

It's not often it seems that those files get generated, but if/when they do, they could be really useful to putting an end to the crashing.
