Does anyone know whether they're scripted or do they occur randomly?

They kinda have a chance to occur whenever your screen freezes and you go from a scene to another. Like when you use the needle injector, the moment you finish that and you pull back, I think this is an example where it has a probability to happen. Or the mix cleaners in bathroom thing, after you mix them and you turn back, there's a possibility for a jump scare, or a whole event ( the one collecting things in that room and the woman in white comes at you from the bathroom crawling )

Those are some good examples. There are actions like that which set them up, but also the game takes note of what you are (and aren’t) looking at or near, and bases them off that too. There are hundreds of ‘haunts’ in total, though not all are jump scares, some are tells to clue you in to the right demon and body, others are more for tension building like whispers or curious knocks and bumps.

Generally speaking, they’re random, and vary from shift to shift. Some are decided at the very beginning of each shift, and some are determined dynamically in the middle of shifts.

Just scream hallelujah brother, whenever you see those things on your screen lol

I do think they are random though and an internet search confirmed they are, which is fantastic for replayability reasons. Although I know my "technique" now to make them less scary: just walk up to the demons/whatever and they'll disappear. :)
But that first jumpscare though wtf!
I gave it a negative review but that was before I figured out the darn report sheet tells you exactly what to do and how to do it. I'll go change it (but maybe not now yet).

Glad to see you’re progressing. A bit of a learning curve for the embalming and using the computer systems, but I guess similar to starting any new job :D
