It takes some time sometimes but I am sure that square enix do not want to lose all the customers which bought then ormal edition. The game already getting review bombeb. People are mad and on top square enix likes money but no one will buy the entire game again just to get small upgrades.
As it is, your best bet if you don't want to pay a bunch is to either wait for a deep sale, or play it via PC Gamepass.
There is no upgrade path and whether or not the S version is even an upgrade is still heavily debated by fans because despite new content and some QoL changes... visually the S version is worse than the original.
The OG is a port of the PS4 version. The S version is a port of the Switch version with various enhancements for PC. They use different builds of Unreal Engine too and have different textures and lighting.
Seems to me that Square Enix needs to offer a better discount, like they did for the console versions.
OG chart for comparison: https://steamdb.info/app/742120/graphs
OG version: 78 - 150 concurrent players (24 hours)
DE version: 2119 - 2270 concurrent players (24 hours)
OG is...pretty much dead at this point. With them removing it from their official store page within the last few weeks, it's not all too surprising.
If you're an OG owner, the best thing you can do is to help us port the assets over to Definitive Edition[discord.gg]. When a better discount comes around, we'll have an even better game with an even cheaper price.

While I fully share this sentiment and believe me comments like these will never end, as far as SE is concerned, as long as people are willing to concede and purchase this game regardless, SE don't give a ♥♥♥♥ and will keep doing these practices. The only way this will end is when everyone join together to force SE to concede by boycotting this game. Nier Automata is going through this as we speak, lets see if we see results.
Yes. The update is to "buy the different product that has a similar name."
EDIT: I still see it? https://store.steampowered.com/app/742120/DRAGON_QUEST_XI_Echoes_of_an_Elusive_Age__Digital_Edition_of_Light/
