Free upgrade for those of us that own the original version.
We can't sell our games that we bought like console players so it's not like we could recoup some of the cost of our investment to go towards the final version of this game. We should be able to get a huge discount or a free upgrade.

I don't understand this type of business practice.

In fact, all games should be free. Why should I every pay for one?

You bought the rights to that version. Thats like saying you bought an iphone 9 years ago and think they should give you a iphone 12 as a huge discount or for free. Or every person that bought any game at base level then when a goty version releases they should get it for free or a huge discount. Things dont work that way.

I have the collectors edition on ps4 sitting on a shelf with no ps4 and if I want to play it again on pc, I need to buy a pc version. I cant go "hey @#$^#@%#$^ at square see i own a copy give me a pc copy for cheap". Why because I bought a specific version.

You guys are aware most games with remastered or definitive editions automatically are added to your library on steam, right? Bioshock is an easy example of this.

That's a developer decision, not automatic from Valve/Steam.

That is true but I guess square enix is still hemorrhaging money so I guess it makes sense for them to try and squeeze more money out of their customers.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

More true words have not been spoken.

"Most"? I'll just copypaste what I wrote earlier:

I didn't get Guacamelle STCE edition for free.
I didn't get Ori and the Blind Forest DE for free (and many people didn't even get the discount).
I didn't get any price reduction on Might Switch Force Collection, much less free.
I didn't get any price reduction ofn FFVIII Remastered, much less free,
I didn't get Skyrin for free (yes, it's true! Despite many people getting it....because they paid $45 extra (more than this game!)).
And while I got Shantae Half Genie Hero UE for free, it was only because I was a backer. Others didn't get a discount, much less free.

What did I get for free? Sine More EX. That's the only one I know of.

I guess the people that worked on this version shouldn't have gotten paid either.

You missed his point entirely.

Yeah, I bet they needed a HUGE team to release a game that has maybe 5% new content. Hence make it DLC for people who already have the game.

Just looking at it:

All that has really changed is addition of content? Thus this sounds like really expensive DLC to me... I don't believe they should have given it to us for free per se, but I do think people who bought the game should be given a bit of a discount considering the changes from the original game really arent that huge. Unless of course I'm missing something like they added new characters and like 20 hours of extra content.

If they "aren't that huge" then why do you care about it in the first place? Just....don't buy it.

Free upgrade is a bit too much to ask. Some extra effort and resources did go into making this version. However it would be reasonable to sell this at a standard DLC price instead of the current price.

The added content and graphical downgrades do not justify the fully price of this release.

Because it would be nice to have it accessible at reasonable price.
