I would never pass the game up one way or another though. Even this edition is okay, it just lacks the majesty of the original vision.
Well, it does make financial sense for Square. Porting the Switch port required less effort than porting the DE content to the original PC version. And they knew hardcore fans would buy the game a second time so here we are. I was somewhat surprised to see the so called PC master race just eat it and not review bomb to ensure this wouldn't happen again. Next time the downgrade might be even worse.
Lol, no it doesn’t. The entire project was mishandled. They should have just released it on Switch to begin with. Or, finished the damn game on PS4, PC, etc by releasing some DLC and then ported it to completed to Switch with the visual downgrades.
Downgrading every version just to get the Extra content of the Swotch version is stupid and people defending it are ridiculous. Demand a little better from the lazy corporations you defend for free.
They did it completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Let’s make PS4 version and 3DS. Then post it to PC, only to later downgrade it with more content to Switch… okay, now ♥♥♥♥ the people who bought the original buy the whole game again, in worse condition, for some dlc content and a few QoL features that could’ve been patched.
Great development decisions.
But please tell me more how I'm gonna be disappointed.
I beat the original Dragon Warrior 3 on NES before you were born.
People aren't happy because the "Definitive" version is a lesser version than the DQ11 that is already on PC. All they had to do was add the 2D mode and other additions to it and sell it as DLC. Instead they only added to the Wii version and then ported that everywhere else. It's super lazy and makes SquareE look like douches.
This is all $20 DLC at best. And that's what it should've been. That's why people are peeved.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D will never be on that level. HD-2D shouldn't even be used to describe pixel art. Pixel art is low res art. If you gonna call it HD-2D, make the game with high res hand drawn sprites. And it would be nice if animations were improved too.
I won't be picking up Dragon Quest 3 until it is extremely discounted or part of a humble bundle. Pixel art is never going to match hand drawn art. It can still look good if the animation quality is great, like the upcoming Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge but DQ3 couldn't even do that.
Dragon Quest XI DE still looks good but the issue here is that the original game looked much better and now the "definitive" edition of the game on PC has Switch graphics with slightly upgraded textures. The tradeoff of the Switch version was portability, there is no such tradeoff for PC gamers.
Presentation matters. It's the reason why Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap feels like a modern 2D game even thought it plays exactly the same as the original.
pc gamers has been chasing for better graphics since the first 3d graphics accelerator came into market. there's a reason we get excited everytime a new generation of GPUs are announced.
as a pc gamer first and foremost, this downgrade is not acceptable, simple as.
