Demo In Japanese
Hello im an american living in Japan atm and my demo is locked into Japanese. Anyone know how to change the text to English? I tried to translate out the menus but could not find an option. Looked for JPN files to delete could not find them. Tried using VPN to set IP to USA no luck. All language/Region options in steam are set to English/USA. Would really like to try this game but i cant read Japanese. Any help would be awesome. Thank you.

I can see about sending you the English pak files -- In fact, you might be able to help us (modders) as well if you'd be able to send us the JP paks.

They should look like this:
(Under <steamapps>\common\DRAGON QUEST XI S Demo\Game\Content\Paks)
pakchunk0-WindowsNoEditor.pak
pakchunk1-WindowsNoEditor.pak

I'll send you a request on Steam and get started on uploading the files to send to you.

Things might change, but if they don't I might have a solution for you. If you're not anti-Epic, DQXI S on EGS is the international version, which is every localized language and WITHOUT japanese text & menus.

Again, that is if things don't change.

Thanks bro. You just gave Epic my first actual purchase, lol. Ridiculous that Square would pull this on Steam.

Glad I could help! But it's not only on Steam. They pulled the same trick on Japan's gamepass.

You're right, though! Shame on Squeenix. They really should take a page from Capcom as unlike Squeenix, Capcom always releases international versions of their games on day 1.

Tell me, some guy said that he got it from EGS and got the Japan version of the game. Can you confirm, please? I haven't bought the game yet because I preordered Cyberpunk 2077.
In Europe, on EGS the page dont mention that the japanese text is included:
"AUDIO : anglais, japonais
TEXTE : anglais, chinois simplifié, chinois traditionnel, français, allemand, coréen, espagnol (Espagne), italien"

That is because this is the International version, NOT the Japan version. You see, Squeenix made Japanese text & menus exclusive to Japan only in this day of globalization. SMH

If you do buy it on EGS as a workaround, make sure you set it to not auto-update. I'd back up the game install to another location too. It's a mistake they might fix.

My Epic is actually still set to US from when I lived there, so I can't be 100% sure. If it's showing all the language options like it did for me on the store page, it's worth a shot since you could get a refund.

Honestly, I may have just lucked out by never having set EGS to JP, lol. Either way, appreciate the heads up to check. I assumed it was only on Steam.

Hey, I don't know for you, but my purchase on EGS only granted me the same version on Steam, no English. I feel sorry for even mentioning that so-called solution. I effin' hate SQEX.

Hey, I'm also living in Japan and I had a similar issue with FFX. I believe the solution was to open the game properties in steam and change the language to English.

I'm not sure if it will work for this game though as I don't own it.

You could also try looking for 言語 in the options in game.

Edit: Right, I forgot the disclaimer.

LIke I mentioned, my EGS account is still American, so I totally lucked out. I'm guessing the same would have been true about Steam. I agree that it's ridiculous considering the original game wasn't even available to purchase here on PC. They must have some crazy deals with Sony or Nintendo to block PC sales like Bandai with their licensed games (DragonBall, Onepiece, etc).

Yeah, the Steam and I guess the EGS versions are borked here. I love PC gaming so much, but the best solution here is to own a PS4/5 and just order the NA/EU versions of games on Amazon most of the time sadly. Even then, you can't buy the DLC with a Japanese PSN account :(

That's true but there are work arounds to buy a US copy on Steam but it's not for everyone.
