Need To Play CoC 1?

Do I need to have played Corruption of Champions 1 to understand anything in this game, or is this something I can go into with zero knowledge of the first game?

no you do not need to play the first game to play this one

The Stories are completly Stand alone you start fresh from scratch creating your own char and backstory and then being thrown into the events of COC2 the only thing they probably share is the engine and the concept. Some Chars as i´ve heard are inspired by chars from the first game but i myself have never played CoC1 and i have i think more than a 100h in COC2 it takes a little to get into but then it is really enjoyable and capturing even for more than just the sexual fixation, because the game has genuinely good writing and world building. That dont softlock you on: "Oh hey yea that R18 stuff we dont do that here". Like most other text based world building games. You can go all the way but you mostly have a choice if you do want to do that, which is nice.

I don't even think Kasyrra, the main antagonist, is mentioned by name in coc1. And she's from that world, and portals into coc2's world in the prologue.

No, no necessary, unless you want some deeper context of how or why the Big bad is in the game. Otherwise it's completely stand alone.

The most you'll get out of having played coc1 first is a few "hey I remember that..." when talking to Kasyrra and perhaps some deeper context on the whole of the universe.
