Ways to cheat for those playing for the 'story?'
I'm not big on the mechanics but enjoy the characters and... story. Is there a way to just buff my stats and read without constantly getting roadblocked by combat?

Search internet for save editors, or go to option and change the dificulty.

easiest mode will make you unkillable. you cannot mess up

There is a difficulty option for this in the settings. If you change it to "Story" difficulty, you can just set the combat to auto and you should win most battles unless the game straight up tells you that you're too underleveled for the area.
