Is this just recently? I'm wondering if the update might have caused an issue? I don't know if it would or not, but it might be a possibility. Weird, for sure.
Ever since the update, I cannot complete the Tree House level. I have played through this game four times and did not have any problem at all until the update.
I have one item left to clean... a little lantern... it's at 99%. One tiny spot but there is not a speck of dirt visible. No orange pixels when I press tab. I spent two hours spraying with every nozzle at every angle and two bottles of soap... there is no way that it can be any thing else but that update. I suspect that they increased the percentage for "automatic clean"... in other words, we have to clean more dirt to get that "ping" saying it's 100%.
In my case ( and a whole bunch of other people who are in the same boat we are in)
I am stuck... I can't go forward into the game. No levels are showing, not even the ones from the new update. The game is now in total standstill.
I would suggest this... press "F8" and fill out the areas where you are having a problem.
F8 goes directly to the developers so they can see the problem and fix it.
Because this is an "early access" game, these things happen... and the only way for them to fix any issue that shows up from an update is to send them a report.
With all the problem reports I am seeing in the Steam discussions, I am sure they are aware and will be working on it and we'll see another update soon.
Hope so... otherwise I've got a dead game sitting in my library.
That being said, there are definitely odd issues with some surfaces/parts in maps that are fine in one playthrough and really finnicky in others, even with the exact same version of the game.
While I was able to finish the skatepark, there was a single wall (directly opposite the enterance) that took me a few minutes to finish despite not being able to see any dirt with TAB or with the naked eye. Had the same issue with a wall in the bathroom map.
I do find myself just blindly spraying water at a perfectly clean surface every now and then until it (seemingly arbitrarily) dings. It's pretty frustrating but thankfully it's never resulted in not being able to progress after several full playthroughs of the game.
There definitely needs to be some more tweaking done to prevent issues like this.
Edit: Just did the skatepark again and had no problems whatsoever. It's definitely kind of inconsistent. I suspect the bevelled edges on walls are playing a large part in that. Depending on the angle you hit them, you can easily miss most if not all dirt on the bevelled edge, and it can be really difficult to see what you've missed.
The way I do the skatepark is that I use the ladder to get the tops of the walls before I start cleaning anything else, then I do the walls themselves. If it's true that it's sometimes unfinishable, this seems to be a good way to start since you'll know earlier if something is "uncleanable".
