Map lost all animal and need zone markers
Game crashed while launching. After re-launching and playing for a bit (just ambling around in the woods), I noticed that my animal and need zone markers were all gone -- it didn't matter if I toggled them on or off, nothing changed on the map. So I quit and re-launched again, and now I get the the animal and need zone markers as little, empty white circles without any labels (the only way to tell which animal is by toggling the animal marker off and on).

This is rather a blow: I spent many [happy] hours building up that map! I would guess that my save file is corrupt (Update: verified integrity of game files and everything checks out.) Do I have to start over? :(

Unfortunately, the only two save files available are from about 15 minutes ago (as of writing) and are within two minutes of each other. So I don't think this is an option. Thank you though, appreciate the idea (and also learned something)!
Ah bad luck - have you see this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2882064749

It allows you to run a separate map in a browser and annotate it, plus it has all the need zones prepopulated. I don't find the in game markers totally reliable, usually ones I have deleted come back in the next session.

That does unfortunately sound like your save file got corrupted. I made a bunch of back-up save files a while ago that could help you at least restore story/map exploration progress, though not the exact population and taxidermy list of your own save, obviously:

Well, thank you for the response.

This game has broken my heart several times today, including deciding to restart as a result of the corrupted markers. Feels bad, might need a good break.

Please report it via our community bug database as instructed in the following thread, so the devs can have a loot at it. Thanks.

It happened again in my new save, but this time there was no preceding crash (which I now believe was co-incidental before): herd and need zone markers lost their icons. To be clear: the herd markers are still on the map as little unfilled circles and can be selectively toggled using the check boxes, but they cannot be interacted with and so there are no need zone markers. I think it must be a rendering issue, and am guessing that it is happening once I cross a threshold for number of zones on the map?

And now they're back!? And now they're gone again. I have no idea. I am learning to hunt without them.

If they are only showing up as small circles rather than actual animal icons, you need to zoom in more closely.
if that doesn't fix it, please report it as instructed in the thread I linked before.

I will do this the next time the behaviour occurs (markers were back on most recent launch).

Haha! Yes, it was a map magnification issue. There is no bug here. Thank you!
