I don't think mission animals do respawn if there not claimed but can't confirm that sorry.
You can still unlock any private area buy purchasing the pass in the shop. I believe there about 4500 for each pass. Can save money doing missions but can simply ignore them if you want.
Maybe it fast travelled with you? Not sure if aware of that bug? Maybe it can affect dead animals also? If you fast travelled back to a camp you have sorta fast travelled twice.
At least there is the option to purchase the land. Sucks if you wanted the animal for the lodge though.
I have always had the theory if any animals do fast travel with you resetting time should make them spawn back to where they should be (it is something that is built in the game if changing time normally) Bumblewoot (a Youtuber) said in a recent video a dev confirmed this works recently so if he is alive rest until the next day and go back and look. My guess is if he doesn't show he is dead and possibly fast travelled somewhere with you.
He isn't worth putting in the lodge so I wouldn't worry about missing a one off animal. If you really do want to get all mission animals for taxidermy or just free passes it might be worth restarting if that is a option for you? It would suck to do so your choice really.
IMO avoid fast travel as much as you can until the bug is fixed. I only use it now at the end of the day or if I need to restock ammo. If you do fast travel reset the time to the next day or you will have animals in areas they shouldn't be. As for dead animals I can't really suggest anything sorry. You could look around the area you travelled (if you know) but I'm unsure how far they can spawn from you. If its 500M+ its a big area to search and they could be under a bush so almost impossible to find.
Sorry I can't be much of a help in solving the issue.
As for buying the pass, this specific quest line is a bit peculiar, because this cabin + the one in Aurora Woods are linked. Worst case scenario, you will need to buy the passes for both territories.
In any case, please report it via the following link so the devs can investigate, ideally with your save game attached:
https://redmine.thqnordic.com/projects/way-of-the-hunter-community/issues/new
How to attach your save game:
1. Press Windows key + R key and paste %localappdata%/WayOfTheHunter/Saved/SaveGames
2. Go into your "Account" folder (if you have more than one, use the one with the newest save files)
3. In the bug report, click "Browse" beneath the privacy notice and attach the SaveData.sav file from your account folder
*To be precise, I placed a fatal, but bad shot on a red deer, followed him to where he bedded down, and after he got up to walk a few more meters I got run over by the rest of his herd. When I came back, his body was nowhere to be found.
I agree mate, Lanani does a good job on here. I think its quite common though TBH, most forums I visit its only a moderator that answers questions. Very few devs post on the forums I visit, some don't even have moderators. As far as I'm aware they don't even get paid for doing it either.
I'm not on discord or any social media either so know its difficult to get info just through steam.
TBH as much as I did enjoy this game, issues like this are making me not want to play much now. I will pick it up again with Alaska but I feel there are many issues/design choices that need fixing/adjusting before I get back into it like I used to be.
Good luck anyway Heavensarewild!
In game a shot might be vital but only a single lung (example) lets say it will take 2 mins to actually die. For the last 30 seconds it might bed down to take its final few breaths before dying. I don't believe a animal will just run until it takes its last few breaths IRL but real hunters will give you a better answer on that. My steam friend who hunts IRL says that was a realistic feature of this game anyway lol.
If a animal is still upright but laying down it is possibly still alive so worth hanging back a few more seconds for it to flop over (don't know how else to describe it lol) It will also still show the rating etc in the binos if still alive. I guess a bigger animal will take longer than a smaller one to die using the same rifle. Most Mule deer, whitetail etc die fairly quick with the 270 but red deer or elk you may notice this feature on more.
I honestly don't know about mods getting paid. Most I have seen post about it in the past are simply volunteers but it could be different for different games? As far as I know most mods don't actually work for the companies they moderate for. Gotta take your hat off to them as steam or and forum can get very toxic.
I wont uninstall but either, I want to support this great game it just has issues. I'm hopeful in time most will be sorted. Who knows Alaska might be so good its enough to keep me happy playing until the other map.
The problem is If you fast travelled over 7K away he might be in that area without a path to get back to where he should be. Not sure how it works if don't reset time. At least you found him! If your around the lodge area keep a eye out for the black sheep. You never know your luck.
Will do, you to. Thanks Heavensarewild
Unfortunately not for me. I shot the sheep and it fell right away. When I reached it, it was gone. I rest several times but the sheep was never seen again. Extremely frustrating.
This is one of those instances that we are also looking into. In a nutshell - all invalid animal states - especially when it's mission animals.
