Solitary animals in Tikamoon Plains
I'm seeing a lot of solitary animals wandering around: Wildebeast, Spotted Hyena, Lion, Gembok. It's pretty sad-looking! Is it normal?

In addition, as Geronimo said, if you recently shot a lot of animals, it will take a while for the game to replace them (specifically until the start of the next in-game year, which is every 3 days).

If you think that you are still encountering far too many solos, feel free to report it as instructed in the following thread, with your save file attached, so the developers can check if your herds are behaving as intended:

Why sad? Strange way to put it, yes there are individual animals, I've seen them occasionally.
Yes, it is 'normal', for suitable definitions of a lot and normal. I guess the game can generate nerd animals who aren't allowed to play in the (insert species here) games LOL.

How many 1-member groups are you seeing in a habitat region, compared to groups of more than one?

I would say that most sets contain more than one animal. OK cool, so it's a random number between 1 and X. Thanks!
I once shot a lone Cape buffalo that had a high ranking. Solitary animals are realistic.

An example of the African buffalo is a dagga boy: "A dagga boy (“dagga” either refers to mud or is a slang term for crazy) is a bull that has left the breeding herd in old age. He is usually alone, although sometimes several Dagga Boys come together to drink or eat. He is as grumpy and crazy as old men can be, constantly rolling in the mud to rid himself of pesky parasites, to help his inevitable hair loss or to cool off." ,-)

This could also be related to replacement spawning delays. Just like when we go through that period where map seems full of nothing but level 1 Youngs.

After killing many low fitness animals over a short period of time, it will take a few days in game for all those replacements to age.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I definitely did not shoot a lot of animals. I wouldn't say I encountered too many solos, it's just that I didn't notice nearly so many in the course of completing the story in Nez Pearce. I'm not worried, was just curious. Thank you all!

"Misbehaving Herd Counsel" is open for business!
Their latest PR says, "single animal herds are the perfect gift for the wandering hunter. Herd management for single unit herds is a bonus, because if you harvest them, they just come right back; they may not be more robust, but they respawn as other herds do, so take, or not, the MHC is here to help."

- not really :steamhappy::eagleeye:
