I've even had moose charge at me after taking my shot, instead of running away. I usually manage to evade them so I don't know if they would have killed me. Same with bears. I had a big male suddenly running at me while I was calling in deer. I stepped behind a tree and it slowly stalked around as if trying to figure out if I was still there. I kept stepping in and out from the tree and finally it spooked.
I'm pretty sure if I hadn't evaded it would have killed me. There is an early black bear mission where a sick or wounded bear will kill you if you get too close. But that might be programmed that way for that specific mission.
I think charging animals are here to stay.
And again, given the time it takes to swap weapons, locate the target, aim, and fire, the charging animal will be upon you. If you're not prepared to shoot a charging animal with your equipped weapon, there's simply not enough time to switch to your secondary during a charge.
by an animal out of nowhere
by an alerted animal
by a spooked animal
by a wounded animal
by the animal that just charged you and has turned and charged again
I don't think there's an official list of chargers;
Elk
Lion
Water Buffalo
African Badgers
various Deer
Bears
....? feel free to add - what's charged you, besides your credit card?
https://youtu.be/GyiyYY6uHI4?si=b5dbST7PuTNbsug2 I think I go over most of the stuff here. If not, then it's in a video shortly thereafter. The charging stuff all gets studied and sorted over time
No just a little misunderstanding:
To clarify, i use two diffrent tactics:
The use of tripod is the best way to not get charged, cause you´re out of sight for the animals and they can´t reach you. And it has also advantages not to spook the animals by sight, smell and sound.
The use of shotgun as second selfdefense gun is usefull if you hunt for those dangerous animals and they attack you after shooting one of them. The shotgun needs no precise aiming to drive them away. I always have one ready when wandering around on foot.
