Quick Review On Retrying WOTH
Im just recently returning to the game to give it a second chance hoping some fine-tuning over the last couple years might make for a better experience.

My main issues were with the No Live Tracks, and the animals' lack of sight when being lured. It took too much from the simulation for my liking.

BUT, since there are only two viable hunting games to play, I really want to test this one further. I always did enjoy the immersive environment, and the animal behavior when NOT in their hypnotic state. And there's three new maps since I last played which makes for some great exploring. Something I enjoy alot.

I tried the African reserve first, and have been really enjoying the experience. There's plenty of wildlife and lots of actual hunting. The views and landscapes are captivating. And I'm finding the lack of dynamic tracks isn't bothering me as much anymore. It does take a little getting used to, adapting from the buttons and mechanics of my other favorite hunting game, but once I became more familiar it was much easier to approach animals, much like I used to. Not much has changed here.

Something I am noticing is the lack of firepower. Even with the most powerful weapons they just don't have the hitting power beyond 150 yards that they should have. In order to make kill shots you've got to get alot closer than should be necessary.

Maybe some people like that challenge.

To me it just makes my weapon seem weak.

But overall I'm really enjoying the game now that I've just accepted the original issues as things I just have to ignore for the sake of having new places to hunt.

I can agree with you on firepower nerf and still hasn't been properly addressed IMO:

The weapon (Tier 5 Remington 1903) and ammo had far too little energy for a shot of almost 400m. For Cape Buffalo .338 Lapua Mag should work fine.

it's closer to 370m and this gun can shoot out to 5km plus this ammo has best penetration because of polymer tipped bullet.

From what I'm experiencing 350 yards is way beyond killing range for any of the available weapons. 200 yards is questionable for large bodied animals.

I'm not really comparing precise realistic ballistics. It's more about whether or not we should have some confidence to be able to make kills out to at least 300 yards, 250 for sure.

But as for the OP topic, it's not really detracting from the game. It just requires getting closer to your prey, which is not really that difficult if you understand the mechanics. I'm enjoying the amazing immersion into the environment regardless of the actual mechanics involved in acquiring harvests. And these mechanics are always changing anyway. It's really just a matter of expectations and that's always going to an individual dynamic.

Something else I've noticed is the speed that fleeing animals reach. I recall something about this being addressed in a patch at some point, but I'm not sure if that's something the devs have been back and forth on or not, or if it involves my own settings. On my PC at steady 60 FPS these animals are reaching unrealistic speeds within seconds of being spooked or shot at. Visually, it's a bit laughable, but again, not really game breaking as second shots aren't really viable anyway.

It does tend to detract from the immersion though.

I'm also impressed with the main lodges in the newer maps. This is definitely something that CoTW missed on big time. I realize there's DLC money behind much of that but that aside, WOW. Nice work THQ.

Being able to go to a lodge while still immersed in the environment is a key feature of a hunting game that I hope the Devs at Ultimate Hunting are aware of.

Of course I don't have high hopes anymore given all we've seen from past efforts. You'd think that ten years of constant optimizing and patching, combined with all of the reviewing done in social media, that a Developer should have all the information and research necessary to now create the perfect hunting simulation. But rational logic never seems to be involved in these processes.
