I'm not really comparing precise realistic ballistics. It's more about whether or not we should have some confidence to be able to make kills out to at least 300 yards, 250 for sure.
But as for the OP topic, it's not really detracting from the game. It just requires getting closer to your prey, which is not really that difficult if you understand the mechanics. I'm enjoying the amazing immersion into the environment regardless of the actual mechanics involved in acquiring harvests. And these mechanics are always changing anyway. It's really just a matter of expectations and that's always going to an individual dynamic.
Something else I've noticed is the speed that fleeing animals reach. I recall something about this being addressed in a patch at some point, but I'm not sure if that's something the devs have been back and forth on or not, or if it involves my own settings. On my PC at steady 60 FPS these animals are reaching unrealistic speeds within seconds of being spooked or shot at. Visually, it's a bit laughable, but again, not really game breaking as second shots aren't really viable anyway.
It does tend to detract from the immersion though.
Being able to go to a lodge while still immersed in the environment is a key feature of a hunting game that I hope the Devs at Ultimate Hunting are aware of.
Of course I don't have high hopes anymore given all we've seen from past efforts. You'd think that ten years of constant optimizing and patching, combined with all of the reviewing done in social media, that a Developer should have all the information and research necessary to now create the perfect hunting simulation. But rational logic never seems to be involved in these processes.
