Anyway in that case, I'd try to change savegame folders in %localappdata% (the whole way of the Hunter folder might be safest for it to work)
So after playing, grab the folder and copy it to a safe place, if your partner wants to play, gotta copy their folder back in, something like that.
So both of you have a backup of your savegame to switch between them.
I'd also assume cloud saving needs to be disabled for that.
No idea if that'll work though.
1. press Windows Key + R Key and paste: %localappdata%/WayOfTheHunter/Saved/SaveGames
2. Copy the whole "Account_xxx" folder in there, somewhere else on a desktop.
3. Create a backup save folder to your desktop (or any other convenient location) and paste to copy your save file here.
4. Repeat this process to switch back to the other save file as needed.
And to ensure that your manual save file management doesn't conflict with Steam's cloud saving, you'll need to disable cloud saving:
1. Open Steam > Library > Right-click on Way of the Hunter > Properties > General tab > Steam Cloud > Uncheck the box labeled "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Way of the Hunter."
Whenever you or your partner want to play, you'll need to swap the save files manually.
- Windows batch command script (.bat)
- PowerShell (.ps1) executables
- C# .NET compiled executable
- Typescript/NodeJS
- etc
Rather than manually starting the game from steam, you'd start it from the command, specifying that you want to run a new game, or one of the previously saved games; the command script would also start a process to monitor the game executable - when it terminates, the saved game state would automatically be backed up to your saved games directory. A more sophisticated version would launch a UI to manage your saved game states, perhaps even for any other games you own.
I've often thought about doing something like this, but I don't really have the need for it.
If enough people are interested, I could be persuaded to to work on it LOL
Right now I'm working on a application so that I can record all of my harvests (basically recording all of the information from the harvest screens, along with information about where in the reserve the harvest was made, whether the animal was shot in or near a need zone, etc. It would be a detailed journal of each harvest, along with any notes I would want to include to describe the hunt). More than that, with enough data, I'd be able to run a statistical learning model to assess the effectiveness of each weapon. I'm thinking of hosting this in a web browser (same idea as the WOTH toolbox), and I can make that available to the WOTH community. I have an Excel Automation version, but that would require a downloaded installation, with all sorts of .NET dependencies, digital certificates, etc.
Hey, when a professional software engineer is retired, and has a lot of time to do whatever she wants
at the same time, to me it seems ridiculous that the game does not offer you a "select save/select character" at the beginning as pretty much every other game.
