scope on a shotgun
I'm sorry if this has been asked but I can't find it. can you equip a scope on a shotgun in this game? I'm not talking about the red dot or the other one, I mean a scope. I saw a youtube video that showed a scope on a shotgun but the only ones I can equip are the collimators or is there a rifle that shoots shotgun shells.

Not at this time. Perhaps if they introduce slug guns ( basically a shotgun that uses a single projectile called a slug instead of lots of small shot pellets or BBs - same action as a shotgun, but could use a rifled barrel instead. You can also get rifled slugs to use in a smoothbore barrel shotgun - just make sure you use the basic cylinder choke LOL).

It's unusual to put a full optic on a shotgun unless you are going after more or less stationary targets, like wild turkeys. The optics would be useless when shooting birds in flight.

You'd want a scope on a slug gun, since you would be using it for larger game at longer distances

My grandfather hunted deer with a .12 gauge Ithaca double-barreled shotgun loaded with "buckshot", got a deer every year he hunted. He would laugh at the idea of a scope. Since we have .12 gauge shotguns, only an ammunition change is needed to allow hunting all tiers with a shotgun.
I wonder what the energy output of shotguns with slugs/buckshot would look like? I don't think it would have much of an extended range. ??

Oh, yes, I forgot about buckshot IRL.

Ure shure you see a shotgun in this video and not the Remington 7600? And ure shure u watched a videp about this game( Way of the Hunter) and not Call of the Wild? In this game you can mount a scope on some shotguns.

all I know is when he shot the duck and it went to the shot picture, it showed a lot of small projectiles hitting the duck. and here is the video

Balderdash -
Morning Silence is a .20 gauge shotgun. It has a red dot I think, That scope was set to 7x Zoom. You cannot do that in WOTH, to my knowledge.
AND, did you notice the speed at which he flew down the hill?
I suspect he's using a trainer.

ah ok. well all I know is I suck at duck hunting lol. can't hit the broad side of a barn with it especially when their in the air

As said above, a scope on a shotgun has very few uses, since the idea of a shotgun bird shot shell is a short range, wide spreading sphere of pellets, so you don't really aim at a kill spot, you try to keep the target inside that spread area. Scopes would be useless for in-flight targets, because of the short 50 yard range of the shotgun, you can easily see a duck at fifty yards, and aim accurately enough to get a hit. I'm not very good at in flight either; maybe that's why they give you so many shots!
I can't remember the location right now, but I will; it's a spot in the northern part and the birds are everywhere and very active; don't recall the map or spot, but I do remember having downed birds all over the place, because they just kept circling. TV maybe? ?

would the remington 870 wingmag 20g be better than remington v3 waterfowl 12g or does it really matter what gun you use? and thanks for all the info :)

As said, not much of a shotgun person, but I found little difference, so I used the pump mostly, a style thing I guess; performance-wise there are some posts here about it, if that's your preferred hunt, then try a search here. Good hunting!

The 12 Ga #3 shot hits harder than the 20 Ga #7.5 shot. So, the Rem V3 WF is better for downing birds.

ok thanks everyone

Absolutely true; I haven't looked at this in detail, but my feeling is that "hits harder" is relative, given the ability of the 20 gauge to down all the birds and bunnies.
In a way in-game, not RL, the differences in outcomes between 12 and 20 are equal = death.

(isn't that a line in a song?... "twixt 12 and 20" maybe.)
In real life I imagine the spreads and energies for shotguns are much more diverse and specialized; Grampa would sure vote the 12 gauge!

I just tried setting up both the Morning Silence and Wingmaster 20ga shotguns in-game
The only optic available is the Red Dot Carbine Optic, 1x, fixed zero at 25m.

The video was made before the update that introduced the selected item display at the bottom right of the HUD
Perhaps back in those days you could put a riflescope on a shotgun, but certainly not today.
Kudos to ChatGPT?

In this game, I don't think it matters too much, but I'd use a 12ga for turkey (if the game had turkeys) and waterfowl, and a 20ga for upland game birds.

Waterfowl shotguns tend to have very long barrels, because you want that extra muzzle energy and angular velocity when rotating your aim to lead the target. My IRL Remington VersaMax Pro Waterfowl 12ga semi-auto has a barrel length of 28 inches, and I can attach a Picatinny Rail to mount an optic if I'm turkey hunting.

In this game, we don't get to choose ammunition as in real life. That can make a real difference, being able to use 2-3/4, 3 and 3-1/2 inch shells, and different shot sizes (in shotguns suitably chambered).

I can use my IRL 20ga O/U for both upland game bird and turkey, just by selecting appropriate ammunition
