Have you got the Elk/Wapiti call, and have you levelled up your perks so you can use second level calls?
If so, call only for high fitness Elk/Wapiti, this should increase your chances of it having higher fitness, ie higher scoring DNA.
If you have Huntersense on, use binos, and it's usually the animals with more stars that have better genetics.
a) it suggests you have to do the kills in a certain area - is that right?
b) some players report it bugged as recently as a month ago, but the 31 October hotfix should have fixed it
Good luck!
The name "wapiti" derives from a Shawnee and Cree word meaning "white rump" for the distinctive light fur in the rear region. Elk range in forest and forest-edge habitat, feeding on grasses, plants, leaves, and bark. Male elk have large antlers, which they shed each year.
Now what do you think of "Wapiti"? I love it. Way more colorful than say, "white-tailed Deer" and way better than 'white rump.'
It's a bit fascinating that they grow so big every year! I posted the link to a rare video (phone camera) of a Norwegian Red Deer shedding its antlers a while back, here:

Imagine loosing all that weight from the top of your head all of a sudden! Must be relieving and scary at the same time, suddenly feeling 'naked'!
I also really like the name "wapiti", also for how the pronunciation sounds in Italian
@Bjørn the video is impressive
another question, but do you know if the developers intend to release other DLC or perhaps focus on a hypothetical sequel?
Thanks again to everyone for the valuable advice!
I have no idea. But from the video, you can see briefly that the head looks a bit bloody and messy where the antlers 'grew'. And the deer's reaction when it falls off looks like it could be pain, or maybe surprise or frustration or something. From eating calmly to jumping and running off. It can seem like the antlers get stuck in the vegetation there while it's eating, so maybe it was ripped off a bit before it usually falls off naturally?
But it's the way of things, and they go through it each year, so who knows?
I think all species of antlered deer shed every year; antlers are different from horns which are permanent. I've picked up a few Red Deer sheds in Scotland when walking, even smaller pieces can be used for tool handles or decorative pieces.
As far as I know, it's not painful, as the antlers break down once hormone levels drop, and there's been no blood supply to them since before the rut. I can't think of a human equivalent except may be hair loss, or an old damaged finger nail falling off?
Caribou/Reindeer are a little different as the females have antlers but shed at a different time from their males.
DLC etc - there's been chatter and suggestions here, and you might see devs dropping in to comment on various ideas, but there is also a road map if you want to check that out and see what their approximate intentions are.
Where can I find the road map?
