Melanistic question
I restarted my game after taking a break from playing. I have a melanistic Mule Deer doe near my nez perce cabin. If I leave her will she produce melanistic offspring or should I kill her and mount her? Is there a quest for melanistic and albino animals?

I could be wrong but I don't believe you can mount female animals. I don't even think taxidermy is an option for females. I think the Devs are working on something for female Bison however. Maybe someone else knows different?

Hello guys, rares/fur color is not heritable, they spawn randomly.

Now that was a straight up definitive answer. I'll bet Bumblewoot was wondering where you were while he was trying to decipher the zone flipping thing. :LaughingOwlcat:

Will leaving the melanistic doe (shes good quality, wouldn't come to the low quality doe call) prevent a melanistic buck from spawning?

Since I just restarted 2 days ago I think she can stay for now as I am working on missions.. rares will be my focus later on :)

That`s how I understand it works. There are only (I think 2) rares for each species on a map, at any given time. Leaving a female rare alone, will I believe prevent the chance of a male spawning in, so if you let her live her entire life cycle, a male will likely only spawn in, once she is removed from the map.

This is why I shoot all female rares on sight, as I believe it will cause a new one to spawn in, in the next cycle, and hopefully this will be a male, that will grow to something special.
I have had 4 albino lions at one time on Africa. I shot the one female as she was a mature but the others are still there. Hardly played the game since before Africa so I need to get them one day. 2 of the males are in the same pride which I found weird.

I haven't had a single rare on the other 3 maps (hardly played Alaska though) so maybe base maps are rarer spawns? Africa seemed loaded with rares and watched a few videos of the Chamois being common.

IMO the first rares (whitetail, mule, red deer and roe) are actually rare but since the others have been added, those seem common from what I have seen.

You could be right there DC2Dixon, as I remember seeing quite a few Albino Lions in Africa, but only went back there for the first time in over a month this morning, so will see how many I spot.

I`ve yet to see any on Alaska, and I think only 2 on Transylvania, but more on Nez Perce.

Maybe having just the single one, on each map, would make them feel more rewarding.
I don't think I have played Alaska since they were added (if I remember right, they were added after the release?) Either way, I haven't seen one on any map apart from Africa.

I like that they are rare, if they are common, there is nothing special about finding one imo.

On Africa, all were initial spawns, well at least I think they were. I have possibly advanced 3-5 days on that map so not a lot of years have passed. To have 2 high fit male albino lions in the same pride seems broken though. Had another 2 female lions in different prides but seen that buffalo are common.

Chamois seem to be everywhere if you go to multiplayer (so a fresh spawn of animals) going off some youtube videos. Maybe its more a initial spawn thing but it seems that the recent rares are spawning to often?

I hardly play now so don't see many years/spawns taking place. Only chimed in to say that at least 4 can be on your map at one time, I might have more on Africa if I looked at buffalo more.

My dream is a 5 star albino red deer so trying to play Trans whenever I do play the game.

So I killed that melanistic Mule Deer doe. Too bad I couldn't mount her. She was beautiful even as a mature.

Just found this guy, sure he is a fresh spawn? Just figured out which day if the first of the year on Nez so be keeping my eye on him. He looks big for a fresh spawn, hoping he makes at least 3-4 star.

You`ve checked him with the caller, and he IS high fitness ?! That`s going to be agonising, waiting for him to grow, and hoping he reaches 5 !

Lanani posted a while back, about making a copy of a saved game, and then shooting him, to see what score he is, so you`d know if he`d make it to 5. A bit cheaty maybe ?! ha ha !

Hope he makes it to 5 for you !
Yeah, I checked with the caller, he is high fit. He is south of the main lodge, the stretch I have hunted most on NP. Had a couple of 5 stars down there now. He looks big and even for a fresh spawn so hoping he's big.

I have recently been trying to figure out the first day on each map (when I do play) Found him on day 1 so will just keep checking back. Never skip days so should take a while, be interested to watch him grow from young.

I wouldn't do that lol, I love the fact we can lose animals, adds to the enjoyment for me.

Thank you! I will probably play more now to see what he makes.
