Just my thoughts. As a new Map i confirm that australia would be nice, or Patagonia.
Basically, I would also like to see more ambience animals in the maps that don't necessarily have to be hunted. Some examples: Here and there a heron near by a creek, at the edge of a pond or in a wet meadow. Or in Africa, cattle egrets next to large ungulates. A few more ravens near wolves, buzzards, eagles, vultures in the air. A few squirrels rustling through the leaves and taking refuge in a tree. A raccoon running across the path. Just to have a little more perceptual density. Personally, I wouldn't be averse to ambience animal DLC.
That was one reason why i give up with herd management because this take a year or even more ! And i missed badly the different seasons doing the job and hunting when its time too !
i dont like the way this game turns more and more into another cotw.
Seasons in the maps would really give Way of the Hunter a certain unique position and an incomparable game depth. Also, one or the other animal species could be added or an improved version of the high stand to bring even more value into the game. Besides, there would certainly be synergies for the developers. ,-) Definitely makes more sense than imitating another game's maps.
I still have fond memories of Deerhunter 2005 Season where the Illinois and Black Forest map was available as an early autumn and snowy winter map. It was a completely different atmosphere. Also different animal animations like rutting fights and antler brushes on trees already existed. I personally find game depth and improvements more important than more game width.
Sitka is a subspecies of blacktail deer found in alaska and northwest canada.
Sika are a larger deer native to japan and east asia, they also have established populations in New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, some small parts of Europe, and Maryland USA.
Also as said more animals variants in existing maps.
If you or anyone knows, please share, thanks.
Hello from England.
To be fair, as much as I love this country, and Scotland too, for its landscapes and scenery, it wouldn't be my first choice for a hunting map. And you are right about the rain!
We have four deer species - the Muntjac is the smallest. No wolves or lynxes have been re-introduced to the wild (yet) so our largest shootable predator is the red fox. The rest of our shooting is mainly the commonly hunted smaller species, it's shotgun and .22LR or even air rifles for most of our hunting here. That's mostly it - not much really.
Seasons - maybe a good idea, maybe even with seasonally changing animals behaviours.
Personally, I wonder how hard it would be to graft more territory onto the edges of existing maps, and my own preference would be for more animals on a slightly enlarged map.
i would suggest the region of Dalarna. there you can get wolves, bears, moose, wild boars, wolverines, badgers, difffrent kinds of deer such as fallow, red and roe, raindeers, beavers, otters, lynx and hares, those should be the basics, but if you want more rare animals that are almost regionally extinct, there is the muskox (as far as i know there is only one wild herd in all of sweden), european bison and arctic fox. also a vast variety of migratory birds. and i mean LOTS. such as ducks, geese and swans.
the reason why i choose Dalarna is that most of these animals listed actually roam there and due to its central location of sweden, the ones that dont could possibly travel there due to proximity of established population. the nature is rich in deep forests, rivers, lakes, mountains, bogs and the occational farmlands. sweden also takes preservation and population control very seriously so hunting culture is very large and takes it very seriusly.
also fun fact, Wild boars is the least regulated animals to hunt, adults are only protected during February and females with piglets are also protected. other than that you can hunt wild boars whenever you want and bag as many as you want. this is due to them being very destructive for farmlands and breeds VERY rapidly, they where also accidently reintroduced into sweden, in 1990 there was about 500 in all of sweden. now its estimated to be over 300 000, and that is with about 100 000-150 000 being killed every year for the last decade. without hunting there would likely be millions of them.
We had seasons and rutting behaviors in 1999 and yet we haven't seen it in an open-world hunting game since Deer Hunter 2005.
So any map DLC should come with a new game mechanic/ deepening of the current system on the basis of a realistic hunting simulation which is also accessible to the broader public.
I just hope they don´t become as lazy as COTW and just release assets.
An Asia biome would be something I haven´t seen yet. Sure snow would be equally cool.
I am all for quality of quantity. I want nice vistas, real world history (e.g. information signs you often find it natural parks with 4k quality so you can read it without opening a menu) and care less about the story (but they are still cool to get to know a map). I want to get to know the country and it´s hunting traditions while exploring the map instead of a fictional "cringe" story. This can all be done without voice acting, and would be a plus as being alone in the wild is what you do all the time in this game. So scrap the story and implement all the real world natural wonders and history/information which would be found when being outdoors in that part of the world.
I certainly think 8$ is far to budget constraint to offer anything meaningful besides a background, so I would rather pay 15$ which offers hand crafted detail in every part of the map instead of just trees randomly placed.
