Difficulty
Is there any real difference between difficulty.

I started a DLC map on explorer to just experience the map first and animals spook so easily, even when crouching. Walking makes them all Alerted and spook, even if they are far away.

I've played Hunter Classic and even there the animals were less spooky, WTF? Do I need some pay to win suit or what?:)

I crounch walk on the mountain, with wind on my face and then hear the wolves for the first time and the information is Spooked 80 m away:) So should I go prone all the time or what?

Do you only hunt with lond range shots in this game - is there no option to stalk any prey? I really don't get that. I played Hunter Classic for hundreds of hours and COTW too and had no problems there.

It takes a while to train all the stealth perks, which makes it harder to for animals to detect you. As you do the tutorials and missions, more information and tactics will be available in the encyclopedia, and your skills will increase.

When you're close, use a stop and go technique, walk a few steps, stop, walk a few step, stop, don't continuously move.
The main difference in difficulty is in blood trails and how easy it is to track a wounded animal.

This may help you a bit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us-hZVp9LyQ
You do have to be more patient than any other hunting game when it comes to stalking, but when you get the technique down it's easy enough to sneak really close.

In the early game before you have all the perks i was mostly taking 100-200m shots, but once you get some of the perks and have worked out how to move stealthily you can get really close with no problem. You have to be way more patient than CoTW though. Listen very carefully as well... there a "single twig snap" sound.. if you hear that there is something around. The moment you hear that STOP! wait, glass around to see if you can get a visual. That is your cue to go into full stealth mode, move very slowly in a crouch stance (there really is no need to ever go prone.crouch walk and ultra slow crouch walk are all that's needed), no more than around 10m at a time, stop again, wait, look, then move a bit again. Obviously if you cant get a visual on the animal and you're moving about while they are within spooking range they are going to spook... sometimes it just cant be helped.

Stick with it. It you have the time and patience it soon becomes very natural, and its far more rewarding to sneak up on stuff in this game than any other hunting game.

Ok thanks for help:)

As others have mentioned, you have to proceed very carefully in this game. Imagine noise as a meter. Every time you move, the meter fills. How quickly it fills depends on your type of movement (sprinting, walking, crouched etc.) When the meter reaches a certain threshold, animals become "alerted". if you keep on moving then, they spook. The only way to decrease the meter is to stop moving and stand still for a bit. I'd recommend walking about 50 meters, stopping for a bit, walking another 50, etc., until you hear either an animal call or a single twig snap as stuthemoose said above. Then figure out where that sound came from, crouch, and approach slowly, taking breaks every 25 m or so.

As for differences between difficulty:
- on Explorer, animal senses are the least sharp, blood splatters are very close to each other and all dead animals are highlighted by a glow in Hunter Sense.
- on Adventurer, senses are a bit sharper, blood splatters further apart, only small game like birds and hares gets highlighted.
- Hunter is the same as adventurer, only with sharper animal senses and less tutorials/hud info.
- Ranger is the same as Hunter, only with Hunter Sense completely disabled.

The spook range in this game is ridiculous on the beginner level, a lots of people have just given up on the game. They are losing pout on future DLC sales because they are just too hard headed to lower it for beginners so they can learn MORE EASILY.

Even with all the perks on the beginner level, animals SOMETIMES spook at 200 meters even if your crouching, just ridiculous. No Aurora shores for me till this is fixed, I want to be able to play with friends that are less experienced.

I guess they will have to go get COTW for 7.50 $ when its on special, we can even play maps we don't own with that!

Thank you for all of the detailed info, I will try all of that.

Yeah, I realised that I have already most of the stealth/crouch perks instead of those prone ones yet still animals spook very easily. I will try all those tips mentioned above, beacuse I've never played that way in Classic or COTW to crouch stop crouch.

In Classic there Was a great mechanic with tracks that let you evaluate how far the animals can be.

In Way of the hunter animals can spook even when I'm 200 m away with good wind and for example on a hill so they can't see me;) So that is kinda strange.

Yesterday I've only crouch walked and suddenly heard a call from wolves 200m away. So I crouched in slow mode now yet still they spooked almost immediately, being still far away.

TO be honest I think that needs to be tweaked, I walk through the forests a lot and never seen animals that spooky:)

I tried to do that mission yesterday with Caribou that you have to call to come for the spot. So I was prone on the ground, not moving, for like 5 minutes, deer came like 70m away from me and spooked, even I had wind in my face. I needed like few meters for him to come to get this mission done but it spooked:(

Very strange game. In Classic the better scoring animals were easier alerted that that low scoring ones, I don't know the game felt more fair.

Animals really spook too easily even if wind is in proper range and they are over 100-200+ meters
Not to mention that it is really hard spotting blood when on small ammount off blood..... I do realise that on small shot blood could stop but not after one or two blood splatter.
Difficulry really needs to be tweaked because animals get spooked on 100meters + even if you are on other side of hill....

I agree, also I find the scoring or should I say money you get for a kill is sometimes crazy also, you shoot a fox and end up with 10-15.00 $, hell I've gotten as low as 3 dollars for a fox.

Also, getting less than 100.00 $ for a bear is too low, they should scrap the MEAT part and base the money on the the trophy, male/female or age of the animal or fur type. The money is too low for the hunt and time spent..

I don't know how many hours you've played, but after a certain point you don't know what to do with the money. I completely stuffed a bison the day before yesterday and it cost me over 8000. I had the money back in a few hours.

Just stand still at 200m and use a caller. Scout out all the need zones and just be there at the right time.

It is very tough to compare it to COTW, where the grass render distance is about 50-100m at ultra and most maps are wide open. But the more you shoot the less rewarding the individual kill feels.

You will get used to it, buy 3 caller. One for predators, white-tale and elk. Bring a rank 5 and 6 weapon. Once you hear an animal crouch to 200m, if you don´t see it use your caller and they will come but it takes like 2-5 minutes.

Did not know the tip of dev, so also a something worth trying.

If there is no contentious blood-trail you just missed. Don´t worry we all did.

I'm not saying you can't make money, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense.
NAKMUAY May 29, 2023 @ 6:52pm
I can sneak up on most animals with crouching and slow crouching, make sure to not be down wind also. If i am coming over a hill and am not quite sure on the where he may be i will move left or right until i am over the hill or a bunch of shrubs blocking my visual, do not walk directly over the hill as he may be just over the hill a little. The only animal that gives me trouble sometimes is the Black Bear, that son of a b1tch seems to have xray vision sometimes, especially in the mountains and hilly environments.
