Not a hunter irl, never touched a bow. But according to quick lookup on the web, to deliver 144j with a 250 grain arrow at ~10m the bow must be around 450 fps? And the fastest in the world is about 360 I believe?

hm, test this on the range on NPV or Transyl map to proof it. Sometimes a branch can be between or deflect or whatever.

Maybe it was a bug in my case weird how the energy was the exact minimum.. I'm pretty sure there were no branches or anything on the way. But... maybe some invisible bushes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I always preferred crossbows. And I was afraid that they made the bow stronger, which would be unrealistic. I noticed that bows can zero farther (70m vs 50m) and you know... new weapon in a DLC must be the best of course

But today I decided to actually test the x-bow on Africa, and turns out its much stronger than a bow. Not only in terms of energy, but also better scope (pins up to 130m). The cons are that it reloads slower (bows are still too slow, so doesn't really matter), and also it's louder (spooks everything always).

But look at these results.. This thing is OP!

But the bolt carried 135j at 142m?!! Bow arrow has that energy at 25m....

it's very weak, can't even reach 100m i think... i don't see any reason to use it. Maybe it's not that loud, less spooking radius? but probs not.

Even with .338 it will run a mile if you single lung it. This looks like a bug.. i don't get how an arrow or bolt can instantly kill like that.

They make big wounds i guess; i have to look at the meat loss, it should be more than from a bullet.

The meat loss from arrows is very tiny, and rightfully so. Meat loss is not from cuts, cut meat is fine I guess? Bullets cause meat loss by creating a shock wave that pulverizes the tissue around, making it very bloody and rough, like a huge bruise. I've read that fast traveling low caliber bullets spoil more meat than low speed high caliber bullets. One of the things that devs got wrong.

250 is the spine value (how much the arrow bends) not the weight.

the 250 spine arrow has 9,8gpi (grains per inch) (this specific shaft)
whereas the 500 spine arrow has 6,6gpi

a stiffer arrowshaft has more material and therefore heavier.
