If you don't want to play as a woman, you can use the private MP, where you can play two male characters. If you want to have the stronger crossbow, then you have to do the story mission as a woman. The only shortcoming in the MP is that you can't do herd management, but if that doesn't interest you, you have an alternative with the MP. The animals spawn there again and again and in my opinion there is a better chance of slaying good trophies than in SP. It's almost like the hunter classic, it's all random.
As far as I can tell, due to the negative feedback they have received, they will think carefully about such actions in the future. The character choice is probably on the plan.

When the game came out, I thought, well, give them a fair chance, even if the experience with other hunting games wasn't positive, but an inner voice told me, "Buy only the base game". ,-)

It also irritates me to play River Knox, "a stuntman with an idiot father." And playing a woman is just out of the question. I guess women are not happy playing a man either. It doesn't take much to implement character creation with gender choice and a minimum of customization. And everyone would be happy. But I guess the car radio is more important.

The year is 1996. The devs at Core Design are in a meeting. A couple pipe up "We have a great idea for a game.. It's a 3D action adventure that sounds like the perfect Indiana Jones experience on PC and consoles... but wait, there's a plot twist. The lead designer raises his hand "I propose we make the main character.... wait for it..... a Woman"

Everyone loses their ♥♥♥♥, "You radical commie loser, no one will play that, stop forcing your globalist elite agenda on those poor insecure gamers" They launched the game anyway and it failed disastrously as the overwhelmingly male gamer demographic of the time just couldn't handle playing as a female character.

Of course the last paragraph didn't happen because we hadn't all lost our damn minds 25 years ago.

Personally didn't care before release and don't now. I can only see the hands of my avatar in this game so it's not something I notice when playing. Even if I did it still isn't a issue for me. I play games to escape reality, I don't take myself or them that serious.

For those saying I paid for the game I should be heard, the world doesn't work like that. If I asked for big foot and dinosaurs to be added most of you would say the same. The devs will make the game they want to make. Sure they might take suggestions but they have there own ideas that we can't change. Paying £40 for a game doesn't mean your ideas need to be listened to.

If it upsets people that much simply stop playing the game. They had only a male avatar for many months, I didn't see one thread about this issue then.

I dunno why people make such a big deal that you are a female on the alaskan map lol, does it intrude on you confidence? then stop play games at all and don't walk outside your home either, i can't believe people are this upset

Well, it's not many, but they are usually very vocal. And some seem to be serious drama queens. ;-)

Sure, but it doesn't mean customers should be subjected to what most current EULAs force users to agree to these days.

For example, Steam decided it was a bright idea that a review an user made could be banned, and instead of being deleted, be locked on your profile as some kind of constant reminder you're somehow a bad individual, and for "later review" of the review, whatever that means. You can't even delete your own review.

Paying customers, especially for gaming software, are pretty much treated like crap these days.

What about changing the product you initially paid for into something almost completely different, in a negative way?

What about introducing a bunch of bugs that weren't there prior, like Expansive Worlds likes to do on a constant with theHunter CotW, and not giving the user the ability to revert back to a prior version of the game that worked better?

Their EULAs give them the ability to do pretty much whatever they want, and they give themselves the liberty to even modify that EULA with more anti-consumer clauses later down the line.

That's what I was talking about earlier. You're talking about one extreme, I'm talking about another.
