Tracking system
Yesterday i p[layed call of the wild for hours. Shot many animals and tracked all of them no problem whatsoever. Today i manage one mule deer, not the best shot but no chance of tracking because the blood trail system is ♥♥♥♥. Unless i drop animal on spot i may as well give up because the trails are indistinct and v hard to follow. They are the same glow as both sunlight and need zones so impossible to see where they go in many cases. Rubbish

Sorry to hear you're finding them hard to track. Good news: the current patch on dev branch includes options for changing colors on blood track highlights etc., which should help with this problem. If all goes well (no widespread major issues reported), then update will come to the normal branch soon as well.

I tested that in the new version 1.20 I set the bloodstains to blue. Even without a hunter's sense, I could easily find the tracks in nez perce between the red ground vegetation and the sunspots. Please do not use the other hunting game as a comparison, because Woth is not a child's game.

Right, it's waaaaay more realistic to be able to stand in an open field and be completely invisible and scentless. Wink wink!!!

Or to spot a nice target and not be able to track it. Or that the only time it actually leaves behind tracks is after you make it bleed so it will finally start leaving a trail.

Yup, not a child's game for sure.

This isnt call of the wild. a game with 6 years of development behind that still has alot of bugs on its own. I dont know if you actually have shot a deer in real life, but the tracking system in woth is way more realistic.

They are completely different games and you cant play them the same way. I can sit here and say, ive never only hit 1 lung on a deer and have it drop like they do in cotw and complain about its realism too.

Find your initial blood spot, turn on hunter sense, hunter sense pulses out away from the character and only highlights blood for a second. Initially hunter sense does not work while moving. The blood spots point towards the next one. Shot placement really matters in this game as in real life. A lung hit with .243/7mm-08 is generally gonna run about 100 yards. Also use real hunting strategies as well. Dont immediatly give chase. The wounded animals in this game do stop and lay down to bleed out. IF you give chase they will run further.

I will admit the hunter sense color being yellow does make it hard to see on nezperz where all the grass is yellow, but they are fixing that.

What motivates someone to be permanently active in a forum about a game they don't like? The developers had to make a compromise between realism and playability. Woth does not have many players because it is too difficult for many. A large part of the players are likely to be adults. In contrast, the other hunting games are also played by many children. I don't think a nine year old would enjoy Woth much, but dancing around a lake, jumping from tripod to tripod and then en masse
shooting stupid white-tailed deer, which you don't even have to hit properly, where the wind has no influence on the shot and then following a glowing trail, even small children can do that.

Maybe some of the people don't like the game because of it's current state? For the sake of an argument. RL hunters that have played this game have said. The animals get spooked from to far away and then run to far away after being spooked. So for us people that complain or are permanently active in the forums that (don't like the game) our just out to get the dev team to make the game better and more realistic. Maybe?

We all pretty much agree that this game came out too quickly.
It was not tested enough. It wasn't ready to come out. A premature birth!

Then, imo, this game is far from being balanced in many categories.

For instance, what some are saying about how the animals spook. I agree 100% that this part of the game is unbalanced.
You can have some animals come right next to you and/or have them easily spook from 200-250 meters away. And yes, they also run away very far.
Many meters away. ( like 300m+ )

The fact that bows were not already included from launch is sad, but since I know it will come in the future, it's all good & I'm patient. But still disappointing.

I'm not going to give you my opinions about the many other issues with this game because it would be too long. i.e. our avatar's weakness to do anything + the ambiant sounds + the irregularities with the performances of our rifles + the Birds behaviours + multi play being so broken + the lack of animals for the size of the maps + the '' *herd management '', etc.
* Not sure it's that effective & works as intended. If it is working as intended, well someone needs to precisely tell me how it works. Coming from a programer, not a '' I think I know '' person.

About adding treestands! Yes, it could be good, BUT try to imagine what work it would need ( code wise, time wise... ) for it to be added & how it would actually work in THIS game knowing what we know so far about it.
( Do not expect to have it work like the other games )

So, unbalanced is the key word for me.

I could go on & on but that's that for now. 505 hours so far & anxious to get the update & have other missions to do & other species to hunt.

Thank for reading all if you did.

But then it would make more sense if these people reported there and brought up their problems where they were also heard. Discord is the forum for this game where anyone can give feedback or report bugs and communicate directly with the developers. What takes place here is a dump of frustration without really contributing to the good success. Demanding and belittling is something different than constructive criticism. Then these people should continue to play the other hunting games, they already have everything there. That's always the main argument that real hunters have something to complain about, because it's different in reality. Then they have the opportunity to contribute their knowledge, but they have nothing to demand. Did you install and test the dev version 1.20 and give your feedback to the developers to help the game progress? I tested everything for many hours and reported everything that didn't work. Meanwhile, others here have put forward their Santa wish list.

@ Florian Meyer : Where do the (deeper thinkers) go in discord for this game? I don't need to see every wish or want in the game (discord #woth-game-talk) to flash before my eyes every second in discord. I'm looking or searching for better answers towards how the game is played or how we play or can play the game (game mechanics). if this steam forum is crap.?

The forum is admittedly a bit chaotic. The game talk chat is also difficult for me, I can read and understand everything, but before I have finished an answer with my modest knowledge of English, the topic is over again. But on the left side you have extra sections for technical support, feedback, gameplay help, tips and tricks, bug report, dev branch and others. I would find it better if everything was structured by topic. There is a German forum that mainly deals with the other hunting games and everyone else can take an example from that. Everything neatly arranged according to main topics, help for beginners, etc.
If you have questions about the game mechanics then ask them directly here in this forum. There are some players here who have been there from the start and who know the game enough to be able to make statements. I don't know if you already know this page but maybe it's a little help for you. The page is updated regularly and therefore not all animals and areas of need are included. You can scroll into the map and the animals will be visible like in the game if you click on them the need areas will appear. The life cycle of the animals is explained, weapon selector and other things are still to come. https://codeaid.github.io/woth-toolbox/nez-perce-valley

Go to Discord. It's a nice community there of everyone helping everyone. We all get along. Unlike this forum where everyone demanding and wanting it to be the other hunting game with tents and tree stands. I can about 100% say tents will never happen. It already has camps spread through out the region. I'd like bows and with the new crawling update perk in 1.20 you can get real close to your quarry.

with the update we get optional blood colours; for me in Ranger mode the Magenta is very helpful ! but also looks unrealistic.
So, i´m waiting for a furry helper some day ;-)
