Is this game better than COTW?
If so, why? D:

Like others have said, it is "different". From the little experience I have with both of them.

Difficulty
CotW: pretty easy with some basic experience
WotH: high, even in the lowest level

Landscape and animals
CotW: a bit cartoonish
WotH: more realistic looking

Weapons
CotW: many, many, including bows, seem more effective
WotH: plenty there already for the casual gamer, but bows not there yet. Seem weak many times

Tracking animals
CotW: can lead you to the animals
WotH: only shows activity in the area but otherwise useless

Calling
CotW: can bring in an entire herd, very predictable
WotH: usually only brings in 1-2 animals, and they return very quickly

Need zones
CotW: you can milk them
WotH: less predictable, times shown in encyclopedia do not match game

Vehicles
CotW: ATV, I had fun driving it
WotH: Jeep-like, driving is ok, you can use it to access inventory

Tents
CotW: very usefull
WotH: none available

Fix towers
CotW: most are in useless places, but I haven't seen the latest DLCs
WotH: Ok places, but roofs too low blocking your view too often

Deployable stands
CotW: Usefull near need zones to do the milking
WotH: none available

Hunting pressure
CotW: clearly visible on map and can be even exploited to see whether a shot killed
WotH: In the game but completely invisible

Trophy lodges
Look good in both games

Well, I tried.😐

It depends what kind of player you are. If you are looking for a realistic hunting game with realistic animal behavior and an extremely realistic landscape, have enough patience and time to slowly learn to be successful, then woth is the better game for you. If you want to turn your brain off to send thousands of silly unrealistic animals to the afterlife in a cartoonish dead landscape, then cotw is for you.

you must´nt be so harsh to cotw ;-) :steamhappy:

It's much better IMO, if you like realistic one.

But arsenal needs time, if COTW needs 5 years, I think they can catch it within 2~3 years.

Maybe I'm rephrasing the above, but I'd say it's different than COTW, but I like it more due to some of those differences. It's slower paced, and to me the environment feels alive.

However, some clear advantages I'd list:
You can pause the game when real life demands it--which is important if you're not a single gamer. In addition, when you exit the game, and later play it again, you resume exactly where you were, which is a huge win for my playstyle, where I can't always dedicate several hours of continuous play to travel to a location, scope it out, and find the animal I'm looking for. If I have even 30 minutes of downtime between IRL responsibilities, I don't have any hesitation to fire it up and make a little progress.

You can spot animals at 900-1100m on PC (can't remember the console figures off the top of my head, but they are all in excess of COTW). I don't take 1km shots, but I really love the realism of seeing a herd across a valley and mentally noting that I should go check that out--or just going after them right then.

Storms are infrequent, but they are awesome when you get into one. The changing quality (and angle/direction) of light throughout the day is also excellent. If it really were a walking simulator as some folks label it, I think I'd still play it :)

To different kind of games, both have good things to offer. Way of the Hunter In a year or two might be the better game we will see.....COTW could Improve there game If they thought WOTH was taking there player base, don't count COTW out yet I think they can change directions a lot faster.........I wish them both the best .........

YES it's better.

OP's Q is the type of Q that no one other than him can answer really if you think about it.

m.h.267 sums it up perfectly.
I would even add to his answer: depends on your expectations for a hunting game. Depends on what kind of person you are in life & about your taste/preferences/standards and so on.

I'll never take any decisions in my life based on someone's opinions/tastes/likings. I'll want to find out by myself.

Thank you.
Different games all together. If you want a game where you get on and have instant action, that’s COTW. if you want to spend some time searching, that’s WOTH. I enjoy both games because depending on my mood or time I have to play, I play what fits at the time.
I enjoy the graphics and animal actions more in WOTH. But multiplayer is not up to par in comparison to COTW. I really hope they fix this ASAP. There are more bugs in WOTH but these days that’s expected upon release and the devs seem proactive in fixing them.
You can’t go wrong with either game, it’s your choice on how you want the experience to be.

If you want shooting gallery type play COTW. If you enjoy watching paint dry or the grass growing, then WOTH. It is supposed to be more 'realistic'. Hell hunting IRL you can go a whole week without even seeing your prey let alone getting a good shot, that's no 'fun'. This game is in no way 'realistic', it's boring.

Hi Germania. I probably would personally not try to compare the two, as each approach the genre from different perspectives. One small example is that of the wolves in each game. In CoTW the wolves will stalk you, surround you, hunt you down in packs. In WoTH, they run away from you.

Up until the release of WoTH, I had purchase every DLC for CoTW I think, except for the last reserve released. I have enjoyed this game so much, I have yet to revisit CoTW, and frankly the thought hasn't crossed my mind.

The environment here is what captures me, pulls me in until I log out or fall sleep here in this chair. Hunting can be tough many a times. It definitely takes patience and a lot of time. You risk not getting a kill for the two or more hours in spend here, but you may be surprised to encounter other enjoyments that are just as rewarding, like following and observing a young herd of Whitetail Deer at 90 yards, as you keep a eye on the range of a Bear nearby. I love seeing how close I can get to animals without spooking them, and just observe their behaviors and how they react to the tiniest indication of my presence.

I have no regrets. Patiently and eagerly awaiting new DLCs and improvements, while I hone my skills at Way of The Hunter.

If you play it right you can kill animals at will. Goto need zones at certain times and there will be animals.

mh267 calling people brain dead for playing tells me a lot about a person.
