Game is unplayable at 3840x2160
After a few seconds running the game at 3840x2160 it freezes with "lowlevelfatalerror file unknown line 198 unreal engine is exiting due to d3d device being lost"

If I lower the quality, it runs a few seconds more, but still crashes.

I already fixed fps rate, disabled any overlay, upgraded graphic card drivers, visual studio redistributable and so on.

Any hint?

Works fine for me. Sounds like your drivers are dropping the connection to your card? Perhaps power issues on your graphics card?
Cmdr_Pirx Oct 30, 2022 @ 12:31pm
Wouldn't power problems rather lead to window crashes?

My pc consumes about 350 to 400 W if running graphic heavy games.
I have a 600 W power supply.

How to ensure the power supply is the problem?

Just to be sure, you checked that your PC and especially GPU meets all the requirements for running the game? If this issue is new, I would also recommend verifying your files to make sure nothing broke in your game files (right click game in Steam library > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of game files)

600w is a bit under powered for a gaming setup, better a 750w. But it all depends on whats in your pc, but seeing as you are running a screen size that large I am assuming a decent GPU like a 3070-90

What kind of video card do you have and mother board do you have sounds like your pc Is old like me.....You can have a updated card but your mother board is not good enough. I have a msi geforce gtx 1060 600 w and the game runs fine, im running windows 10 mother board Is still eight to ten years old ,still seems to be running ok at high settings still maybe get It looked at.

By the way how many hours has this game been played on your pc? Has this been a problem from the start? What are you running anyway people need to know to help you.
Cmdr_Pirx Oct 31, 2022 @ 8:52am
My setup:
i7-8700k
16 GiB RAM
ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB OC
ASUS ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming
NVME Samsung SSD 960 EVO 1TB
Enermax Platimax D.F. Netzteil, 80+Platin, Full-Modular, 600W (EPF600AWT)
I have 1 display with a 4k resolution of 3840x2160.
Windows 10 Pro
It is a rock solid system without any instability or overclocking.

I've updated the graphic card driver
I disabled any overlay stuff.
I've set the max fps to 60.
I've updated visiual studio redistributable.
I've checked the game files.

The problem exists from the first start of the game.

As I mentioned: I measured, that the system consumes 350 to 400 W max at the wall socket while gaming, which means there is at least a 30% reserve.
The system runs stable, just the game does not.

Woudln't an insufficient power supply lead to an instable system over all?

Simply yes, 400 is bare minimum but games force pc's to peak draw a lot so that 600 would have good 5-10 years ago. But with modern pc's 750w is the average. Then there is the quality of the PSU a generic 600 isn't going to be reliable as a good brand. the one thing you never skimp on for a pc is the motherboard and PSU or it will bit you in the end.

So have a look at a PSU calculator for most good brands and see what you hardware really needs eg https://www.bequiet.com/en/psucalculator

Have you tried at lower resolution (2k) to see if you still get those error ?
"d3d device being lost" is a common unreal engine error but not easy to solve. It can be a lot of things

I can run the game at 1920x1080 but not fully stable and only in low quality.
If I tab out, the game crashes again.

I highly doubt it depends on the PSU, which is not a cheap one and does not make any problems while running other games in 4K.

As long as You can't show me a method to force a reproducible crash, which is 100% sure to be caused by an unstable PSU, I call this a myth.

The PSU calculator You mentioned even proposes 550 and 500 W PSUs.
iFred Nov 3, 2022 @ 4:25am
If you really have a PSU-Issue you will surely see it anywhere, not only in WOTH.

Even if your card is not the best for 4K it should at least run the game at a certain quality.

I would check Nvidia-System-Settings for an overwritten value or something similar.
Frank Drebin Nov 5, 2022 @ 1:09am
Not gonna questioning your problem, but did you conscider that maybe, just maybe, your GPU is a bit old to handle everything new in 4k? I mean I have a RX6900XT and the game still demands alot from my GPU in 4k.
Sure better optimization could help to eleviate some performance problems. But 1km render distance comes at a cost.
Invoc@tion Nov 5, 2022 @ 3:12am
1080ti was a beast. I still have one in another build. Tried WOTH : 4k is playable with graphics option tweaked BUT I'm 100% agree with Frank Drebin post above : 2k is Okish resolution for this card.
The problem there is the crash : do you run MSI afterburner, razer cortex or do you have GPU/Memory overclock on your gfx card?
If yes, then close the program OR/AND restore your GPU/Memory default frequency/voltage.
Then retry to see if you still get this error.
I'm able to reproduct this error on my side : it happened when i tried to overclock my gpu memory frequency above the "stable" memory overclock I already got.
