4 Star Adult
I have a 4 star adult moose on my map. How many days do I let him sit when he hits mature. I think he will be 5 star the very fist day he matures.
What would you do? Shoot him as soon as he hits 5 star or go for 500 total score?

According to the in-game encyclopedia, moose ages are as follows:
Young: 1-3
Adult: 4-7
Mature: 8-12

How many in-game days exactly equal one year has been kept deliberately vague by the developers, but going by player experience it's around 3-4 days, so Toybox, if your 4 star moose is an adult now, it has at least 15 in-game days left to grow.

As for your moose, heavensarewild, I'm guessing they were already mature when you encountered them and close to the end of their life, so yes, if you are 100% sure it's the same herd and now all you see is 1 star youngs, the old ones died and the new young ones spawned.

So what is the reason the Devs want to keep us from knowing the exact details?

It seems to be crucial to the successful managing of our herds that we are able to pinpoint when to take a mature out, and when to leave it alive a bit longer.

I don't know why it should be kept from us.

Do you know Lani??

@Geronimo: No idea why. My best guess is they wanted to prevent the game from becoming 100% predictable, but again--just a guess. That said, the latest dev diary stated that we will get more info on herd management in the future.

Double disaster ! NOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo !!

Went back into the swamps, to try and see if those 4 Stars were still alive, and had reached 5 Star yet. And found a herd of 4 - 2 x females, and 1 & 4 Star Males. The 1 Star was at the front by a good 20 yards, so I had a last look behind them to see if any more appeared.

No others, so lined up the shot, and downed the one at the front. Went to claim him, and discovered with horror, he was the 4 Star ! How he swapped places with the 1 Star so quick I don`t know, but I`ll need to be more careful in future. Also saw he had 95% genetics too.

30 mins later, I spot a herd of 3 - 2 x females, and a 1 Star Male. This must be the same herd I thought, and felt like I should take out the 1 Star, just for tricking me earlier.

Finally got the shot, and downed him, and when claiming him, saw his genetics were 99.49% !! I`m definitely going to have to be more patient, and use the callers more for these Moose.

Geezus heaven, u spent all that time getting good males to breed and than kill them off lol. Hope they had the chance to spread some DNA before u popped em

Day 3 a mature and he is a 5 star. I didn't shoot him today, but I don't know if I can wait for 500.

I got lucky and the first moose I saw was a 5star that scored 500 with 99.98%. I know ill never kill another one that size. It'd be really hard to let a 5 star go days and days hoping to get to that 500 score. Even at like 95% genetics i doubt you could get a 500 score. I dont know about everyone else but I have a really hard time trying to judge the genetics of a large animal. They always look symmetrical to me. I just end up shooting 5 stars as I see them. Maybe after my lodge is full ill start letting 5 stars live longer and replace the smaller ones with higher scoring ones.
3 weeks waiting a Wolf and a Bear 4 stars....last Two missions, I'M FRUSTRATED.

Another 4 star adult. My map is on fire with 4 stars all over the place. It's very hard to keep up with them.
I wish I had more markers.

I've been letting my 5*'s live and will only shoot them now if i have another 5* in same herd, my goal now before rares become a thing is to make as many high fitness herds as i can since shooting them can do more damage then not depending on your goals.

As far as antler species go, if they won't respond to low fitness calls, as many have stated, look at the antlers for the species that have em, if they not symmetrical, they don't go 5*. So far for me this has been 100% accurate on my map for whitetail, mule, elk and moose.

It's tough to see through scope but not impossible. We badly need a high powered spotting scope to observe animals.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for red deer. I have a few 5-star ones that are asymmetrical.
Lanani Nov 22, 2022 @ 4:46am
Oh no, that sucks. Time to cull some more low fitness animals...
The Grey Nov 22, 2022 @ 6:26am
This fitness things and herd management is puting the game in a whole next level, to stay interrested and not getting bored.

I dont think in others COTW/Hunting game this exist, if someone can correct me.
