This .300 in my opinion is not the follow-up for the Steyr Pro 2. I personally feel that the .308 Win is the next contender but it cost more than the .300. The reason I think (I'm no basement gun guy...I can barely open the cover to gun magazines) is its the next step up, yet not as wasteful as the .300 on deer, thereby yielding you greater return on your sales. At this point, I'm too impatient to wait for it, so I'm going to ruin my Deer and Elk herd zones with the instant gratification of using a sledge hammer.
The 7mm-08 Rem is accurate. I enjoyed my time with it, and its returns as in WoTH experience laid a good foundation for me. I hope you enjoy it as well. If you haven't yet, get that Overgaard LR 3-15x50 sight for it. Thank you, for the "How many Joules?" guide link. I love it.
I bought the 308 first then got the 7mm and liked it better. It is more accurate to me. Also because of its flatter trajectory, it is easier to hit long distance shots. We all know we're aiming for the vitals and we must but this 7mm is so crazy that I feel like it has more power/penetration to hit more vitals thanks to its energy and speed.
The 7mm is imo up to 130m slightly more effective due to its bigger wound, with the .243 but with increasing distance the faster .243 does more damage due to more penetration and the 7mm struggle than sometimes depending on animal to do a double lung shot properly.
