300 or 338 For Moose?
Does the 338 have that much more stopping power? I'm thinking of passing up (for now) on the 300 to get the 338. Thoughts? Thank you!!

I've just bought the 338 but not had a chance to use it yet. The 300 has nailed every level 6 I've used it on under 400m. Not sure how much better the 338 is going to be... probably only really useful over the 300 on ultra long shots is my guess.

.308 for moose. No joke.

.308 for everything bigger than a wolf.

The .338 will give you a lower hunt skill at closer shots. The .300 is my go to for the highest value, but they both are excellent firearms to use on tier six animals.

This. .308 is only gun you need in this game for big game. I will say, the shot replays make it seem these animals are dense as lead. I am not a hunter so can't say if it is reasonable, but 308 has a bunch of energy.

I've dropped several moose with the .308. Lung/heart and they won't go more than 150m

I've been using the 300 as my large gamer, and it's really just a step up from the 7mm. The 7mm is really not reliable for any large game, not even deer. Unless you don't mind lengthy tracking sessions.

The 338 is really just a bit more hitting power at ranges over 250 yards, where the 300 will lose a bit of its energy.

I haven't tried the 338 yet, but I do know that the 300 is not giving me confidence on shots over 275 yards.

Yes, the 300 is capable of 400 meter kills, but not nearly as reliable as the 338 would be at the same distance.

And at that range you really aren't going to get a second shot at an immobile target.

since i´m in Ranger mode and have difficulty to follow blood tracks i now use the 300Mag also for class5 despite the meat loss. If i loose 1 hunting star, so what ?...animal dies more quickly with less pain and i loose a bit more of meat/income.
Perhaps i buy the 338 for class 6 only to have a better chance of faster dying animals.

Hit both lungs and the heart and you won't have to track.

The .300 mag is plenty of gun for anything in the game right now. The 7mm-08 is plenty for deer. Same thing. Both lungs and heart.

;-) i shot a lot red deer with heart shots.
I hit sometimes both lungs on black bears and they run 150m or more and i dont like these tracking nonsense in Ranger mode.
I read today in europe the 338 become more popular.

I don't mean lungs or the heart but both together. It won't run far if you do. I've never had any animal run more than 10 yds when both lungs and heart are both hit together.

sure, i´m focused on red deer so much that i have problems to aim the right point on elks, Waipiti (idk these guys) and especially bears from dead ahead.
I feel i go back to Transylvania :-) ....but that´s show´s that at least something they did right in the game ;-)

Wapiti is the Native American name for Elk. Elk and Red Deer are closely related members of the Cervidae (deer family, with Elk being somewhat larger.
