This also means the hunter families are in a much greater danger when they don't have enough members in the family, so might as well turn them into recruits or servants when they get too low.
haend is right tho if they shoot a wolf and there are 5 other wolves around they alert and all attack at once, no way to avoid that behavior
Note that if you don't produce steel rods yet you can always place them down. The hunters will place a buy order and there's higher chance for caravans to sell them next time they arrive to town, which the hunter family will just buy them on their own. As i mentioned before fencing also helps a lot on my save. It's kind of a band aid honestly, but until the devs patch them I think at least it helps a bit. I fenced off the whole hunting forest and leaves small gaps to enter them with bait in the middle.
I wish they would wear armor. That would also be a plus for the economy, and a reason to craft all that leather stuff, especially if you aren't kitting out a huge army.
