[Royalty Tax] Royalty tax is too complicated
if we didn't paying taxes to the royalty ... what will happen? will there be game over??? I haven't tried it yet ...

I am still thinking about playing with royalty taxes on ... but I am not sure if I want to spent time being chased by this taxes ... as the tax by royalty is large enough ... and even when I just started the village with only 3 families ...

the royalty tax is very difficult and so much a hassle. Can it made into more simple and don't need alot of attention?

I must looking one by one for each commodity each year. While making my village survive is still a problem for me ...

can royalty tax is made just into percentage of my gold or something? something less complex and easier to handle?

The royalty actually seems pretty lenient about the taxes. I missed my fish goal last year because of my servants eating them raw instead of cooking. Even so, I gained some points with the royalty. I'm not sure where the cutoff actually is for a game over, assuming that's how it works at all.

long as you do like 50% of the good asked you will pass

if you miss 1 soldier tho you will fail the entire thing even if you gave him 100% of the goods he asked

currently failing the taxes is not a failstate for the game

you can only fail the game when your ruling family dies (old age, sickness, fights, attacked by animal, starved, or revolt)

edit- wanted to add this little bit for those curious, when your last ruling member dies the game will continue to play in the background. you just get a huge red banner saying game over or something to that effect, you wont be able to collect taxes, assign new zones, grant goods or have new families join. if you balanced everything before your untimely death the game will just continue without you

I have failed to give the king is full taxes before, basically i got no new points to spend on recruiting families, and the amounts of the next tax were actually all lower. So from what i can see, if you fail this years tax, you get a more lean tax next year.

so its possible just to play the game without any consent with the royalty tax, even when the relation has reached 0 percent. I don't need to worry about that, except that I will lose some resources each year.

is that it???

as my new walkthrough with royalty tax on, just reached year 3, and after the royalty tax seized all of my food, I lost 20 people because of starvation ... left only with 1 gold ... and need to play the game all over again ... this game is difficult enough to play it with normal difficulty

I mean, you do know about the royalty tax option, so just disable it if you find it impossible. I think the biggest hurdle for most people is the fact that they let the villager tenures on the default, so you only get 10% of their resources. I usually start with at least 25% for ruler and 10% for clergy.

That being said, multiple food producing family is a must in this game. It seems that a lot of people have huge crisis because they prioritize 1 type of family each. Before I even think about unlocking stone and mining I already have 2 farmers, 2 fishermen, and 2 foragers working.

There are also some "minmax" ways for the villagers to survive, like making small apple tree farm next to each household and then merge it to the household zone, so they will harvest those fruits by themselves for their own sustenance.

Another thing I forgot to ask. When you say you lost 20 people, are you talking about the villagers or your servants? Villagers only pay tax to you, so the king's tax shouldn't really cause starvation for the villagers, UNLESS you buy out or seize every food the villagers sell, which you really shouldn't do especially in winter.

One very simple way to ensure that you always have something to eat is to designate a single farmer or fisher family to Stewardry tenure. Pay them enough for their needs, and they will produce food directly to your storage.

my villager ... and althoug they all have money, but there is no food to buy. Even my warehouse can't help them as I don;t have enough food to give.
