also still having this problem, to a degree - SOMETIMES they make good meals but even then, sometimes if those are available, the ruling family takes the normal / simple ones instead ...
which leads into another problem in that even though my cooks ARE cooking, they aren't cooking nearly enough and almost every day someone in my demense goes to the inn to purchase food. I have 3 cooks to feed 5 labourers, 2 stablehands, 2 guards and a general, plus my ruling family of 5. 3 should be enough to make enough meals (there sure as hell is enough ingredients, they just don't cook fast enough or in great enough supply... devs need to increase the amount of meals cooks make at one time)
I think that's because of a restriction I fail to understand: cooks will cook until at most 35 meals are in stock (I've read that somewhere on the forums). Why? No idea.
Or at least let me give other thing with same value to my subject and keep my face, why can't I give them ingredients instead of cooked meal? Why pips don't prepare their food stock to have it enough to pass the winter while they still have enough money and food are cheaper when abundant?, they keep coins and buy expensive ingredients in middle of the winter...
The other obvious one, yes. I have all of the required cooking stations and they are all inside the kitchen and yes I have assigned cooks from my servant staff in the appropriate tab. In fact. In my attempts to solve this i hired 4 of them and created 3 cauldrons and 3 cooking tables.
The other obvious one is I went to the cooking tab of the management menu and I turned off the automated AI cooking as well as the option to have them create meals of a lesser quality if the ingredients aren't available. And I set the target for good meals to be 500. All other options are set to zero.
And before you say it. Yes, I have less than 500. I fluctuate between 5-10 and 0. Sometimes they make some excellent meals regardless of my directions. But more often than not they make normal quality, but still not enough to keep up with the demand.
So in spite of having 4 cooks, hundreds of kg of ingredients, and all of the required stations, zone, and settings. I have spent my first two years watching my starting supply of normal meals dwindle down to, now, nearly none and I don't know what to do.
There seem to be many little quirks and bugs in this game most of which I'm more or less willing to accomodate because I like the game anyway. But if my village starves to death despite having plenty of food around and I simply lose for no apparent reason. I'd have to say that's not a quirk. That's game breaking.
Is something being done to address this? Should I come back later and try again after a few patches?
Or is it that I'm really just not doing something correctly? I have about 10 members of the demesne so literally 40% of them are cooks. I don't know what else to do.
