I started mine yesterday, but I'm combining it with the 3 hours run. Not recording it though, don't think I'll enjoy this one run much, I'll probably record Veteran S+ if anything.

Any parts of this particular challenge that you don't know how to get past without killing?

hmm,
i suppose the first trench defence.

initially i though you could just run around until the enemies following you get hit by friendly fire bombardment.
later on i discovered the coward hole, so that would be the correct way to deal with trench battles?

Yeah, you have to abandon your post in all major battle events. And use one of the Artillery Shells in the cannon that points towards Fire Trench, that allows you to get the Infirmary key without having to kill the two armored soldiers.

cheers for clearing that up.
i've just started a new run.
this time i am aiming to avoid as much encounters as possible, as i want to see at what point your aim begins to shake.

I finished Consciencious Objector combined with the 3 hours achievement a few days ago, it wasn't difficult at all.

Did it on NG+ with max HP and Stamina, Fully upgraded inventory, Fresh Puttees and Evasion Tactics, no limits on saving and healing. You can't change difficulty in NG+ so mine was on Soldier.

Since you don't need to worry about weapons, ammo, treasures, health/stamina upgrades, locked drawers, etc. you can skip a good chunk of the game. Just make sure to have a handgun or machinegun for the two specific sections where you have to shoot explosive barrels to clean debris (and don't accidentally kill any nearby enemy in the process)

Since you also don't need to use Artillery Shell on neither Reserve Trench West nor Reserve Trench East, because it's pointless for this run, you can store the third Shell to make things a bit easier later in chapter 5.

good stuff!

i will do this run one day.
i have just realised that i can permanently offset shellshock with alcohol.
not the 120 seconds temporary buff, but reducing the overall effect.

this helps me alot.

Quick question, If you're supposed to go through this challenge without directly killing anyone. Pretty much abandon all posts. Only really use guns to clear up explosive barrels in your way. In which I'll be body armored with repair kits on hand every step of the way on NG+. Then How are you supposed to get the key off that one German Knight In chapter 2, that holds the key to get into the medical ward, Which inside You meet medic then have to collect the key you need to get into Fort Soulvilles catacombs to progress the story? Is there a workaround? A shortcut that I don't know of? And are there any other key points in conscript I should know about before attempting this essentially cowardly pacifist challenge that result in my timely demise With ending 1A/B.

Like I said above: you skip that battle with an Artillery Shell.

You can find two Artillery Shells during chapter 2 (and a third, but must be bought from Merchant), and each cannon has its "reward":

1. Reserve Trench West (Revolver + some Cigs and Gun Parts)
2. Support Trench West (Small shortcut + some Handcannon ammo)
3. Fire Trench (1x Ruby + Infirmary key without having to fight anyone)
4. Reserve Trench East (1x Pronged Key + Empty Necklace treasure + some Handcannon ammo)

Choose your cannons wisely depending on the kind of run you're doing.

Oh Really? I thought fire trench & West trench were basically just shortcuts. Didn't think they'd offer up rewards as well underneath all that rubble. So if the shell doesn't kill the German knights, (Which would kind of defeat's the sole purpose of the challenge of no killing.) In actuality reveals a spare key? All right, I'll have to try it then, Thanks Chief.

Okay, I'm going to go off on a bit of a tangent here? Am finally going for the achievement, and I shelled the fire trench. But now that I'm here... I am genuinely confused, The challenge says not to directly kill anyone. Yet here I am, in the fire trench After being shelled, With two clearly dead German knights that were blown away by my shell. How does this not count as *without directly killing* when You directly loaded that shell, fired that howitzer, & straight up killed these Knights. The excuse in saying "The shell is the one that killed them", doesn't apply here, Cuz you still pulled the Cannon's trigger. Really Jordan mochi? You couldn't think outside the box here? Make a spare key? Is this really the only exception For doing the challenge? When it clearly goes against the concept of not directly killing any enemies? Call it a gripe if you want, but I'm just saying This really shouldn't count & ruins the sole purpose/meaning of the challenge.

"Complete the main story without directly killing any enemies with guns, melee, grenades, or hazards"

It's not considered a direct kill, you just fired an artillery shell to clear some rubble, and those two guys somehow got caught in the blast radius offscreen.

You have to use another artillery shell (Howitzer) in chapter 4, which probably killed a lot more than two Germans as well, but as far as the game is concerned artillery is a key item, not a weapon.
goldeneyesucks Dec 14, 2024 @ 5:36pm
Well to me, in logic terms, It still feels/counts like a direct kill. Cuz Despite shooting The fire trench rubble, In actuality From some POV, It still Really counts as a "direct hit" killing those German Knights even if it was AOE From the Shells explosion that Really finish the job. And I will say you make a solid point with the big howitzer definitely taking more German lives off screen in chapter 4. Still, Making big ass gun/Guns A key item in game, Doesn't completely rule out the fact that it's still a big gun/weapon that kills & You're pulling the trigger That "directly" In a multitude of meanings, Is you & howitzers You fired, "directly" taking lives. Sugar coat with Video game logic terms/marking all we like/want, but They're still A mark of realism In within historical theme games & historical objects in game like this & factual meanings behind such things that need to be Put into Real life analyzation/correction. So While doing all these steps Got me the achievement in the end & am Really happy/thankful for you providing the workarounds on how to get this achievement.(Really I am, I wouldn't have gotten us achievement without your help) It's just The methods to achieve this challenge, In which Jordan mochi & The rest of the development team implemented into conscript, As well as this achievement. that I wish from a grounded realistic perspective & real understanding of the word/meaning of "direct" with this challenge, was handled better to really stick with the term "directly not killing" is all am Trying to say here. But what we have to work with here, At least to me, feels like the absolute biggest stretches of stretches if we're being ultra generous, In which case I'm not here this one time. But otherwise, thanks again for the guide, cuz This was the last achievement I needed To 100% the game. Have an awesome day.
