Any parts of this particular challenge that you don't know how to get past without killing?
i suppose the first trench defence.
initially i though you could just run around until the enemies following you get hit by friendly fire bombardment.
later on i discovered the coward hole, so that would be the correct way to deal with trench battles?
i've just started a new run.
this time i am aiming to avoid as much encounters as possible, as i want to see at what point your aim begins to shake.
Did it on NG+ with max HP and Stamina, Fully upgraded inventory, Fresh Puttees and Evasion Tactics, no limits on saving and healing. You can't change difficulty in NG+ so mine was on Soldier.
Since you don't need to worry about weapons, ammo, treasures, health/stamina upgrades, locked drawers, etc. you can skip a good chunk of the game. Just make sure to have a handgun or machinegun for the two specific sections where you have to shoot explosive barrels to clean debris (and don't accidentally kill any nearby enemy in the process)
Since you also don't need to use Artillery Shell on neither Reserve Trench West nor Reserve Trench East, because it's pointless for this run, you can store the third Shell to make things a bit easier later in chapter 5.
i will do this run one day.
i have just realised that i can permanently offset shellshock with alcohol.
not the 120 seconds temporary buff, but reducing the overall effect.
this helps me alot.
Like I said above: you skip that battle with an Artillery Shell.
You can find two Artillery Shells during chapter 2 (and a third, but must be bought from Merchant), and each cannon has its "reward":
1. Reserve Trench West (Revolver + some Cigs and Gun Parts)
2. Support Trench West (Small shortcut + some Handcannon ammo)
3. Fire Trench (1x Ruby + Infirmary key without having to fight anyone)
4. Reserve Trench East (1x Pronged Key + Empty Necklace treasure + some Handcannon ammo)
Choose your cannons wisely depending on the kind of run you're doing.
Oh Really? I thought fire trench & West trench were basically just shortcuts. Didn't think they'd offer up rewards as well underneath all that rubble. So if the shell doesn't kill the German knights, (Which would kind of defeat's the sole purpose of the challenge of no killing.) In actuality reveals a spare key? All right, I'll have to try it then, Thanks Chief.
It's not considered a direct kill, you just fired an artillery shell to clear some rubble, and those two guys somehow got caught in the blast radius offscreen.
You have to use another artillery shell (Howitzer) in chapter 4, which probably killed a lot more than two Germans as well, but as far as the game is concerned artillery is a key item, not a weapon.
