What happened to character creation?

I went to create a new Smuggler but when I wanted to give it a name, the game tells me I needed at least a space and three letters for the name to be valid???

And for those who thinks "eh, I'll just pay 1000 Cartel Pieces for the change name item" and remove the "second name", it doesn't work. So now I have a Cathar Smuggler with 2 names and the legacy name...

There is no second name. There is a legacy name, but that is named after you're in game, not the character screen. A space in your name is optional; not required. The minimum amount of letters for a character name sounds about right. The name you chose was probably just unavailable.

I'm serious, I can't just put the name I want because the game really won't let me thanks to the absence of a space followed by 3 letters minimum after the first name I put. Do you want screenshots to prove it or something?

Edit: I'm impressed by the customers service of the game which quickly contacted me, they didn't know either what I was talking about and precised what exactly was the problem I encountered in SWTOR (which has nothing to do with the error message saying a name was already being used by another player).

Let's hope it wasn't that bad of a problem I had and just a minor glitch that will be fixed soon.

Here's all the steps I did and precisely what happened when I tried to put a single name:

Step 1: I chose a class

Step 2: I chose a species

Step 3: I build the physical appearance of my character

Step 4: The game generates 2 names at random, so I chose one I felt would fit the character I built and SWTOR just didn't let me do it because it needed literally TWO names with a minimum of a space followed by 3 letters.

Step 5: Once in the game I thought the "change character name" item from the Cartel Market would let me change my damn name to what I want, not only it didn't worked but the item also went MISSING. Meaning I lost 1000 Cartel Pieces over a piece of junk and an apparent problem...

Ok I have never had this happen to any character I built and I been playing this game from day one, every character I have ever built left the name blank...

I contacted the customers service of SWTOR and they were as puzzled as me, I hope they'll find somes answers.

After consuming the name change token AND not choosing a name after the pp-up it does not go missing. The name change remains valid. Even if you log out your character will still have a valid name change available and it will be prompted again. You can change via character window (C) or on character list on the server upon relogging.
I know it's confusing because the token is consumed and gone from your inventory but the option to change remains.

I made a scoundrel like 2 weeks ago and I never got a message about needing a space to be valid, I made two names because it was rejecting everything I was trying but I never got a message like the one you said you got, I have to make a shadow on the new server maybe I'll try that tonight and post back how it went, someone had Togruta unlock on new server for 1 mil credits so grabbed it so gonna make me a Togruta shadow

Just made my shadow it worked out fine for me, I took live without regrets put it into a Swedish translator and got Lev utan anger, I put them together no spaces pasted it in and it let me right into the game no troubles, never got your message you're getting

So, the customers service sent me a message, they really don't know why I encountered that bug and said they would refund me the lost 1000 Cartel Pieces when I tried to fix my name problem. Also one detail I forgot to mention, when I saw the "name change item" didn't worked, I shut down my game and a few hours later when I wanted to try again, not only the "double name" I got was still there and the Cartel item was gone.

It has to be a real issue because in 12 years, that's the first time I got refunded for anything (credits, real money or Cartel Pieces).

They could have just given you a free rename token I've been given two of them in my time and I never even asked for them, it was probably server merges so I had to change my name but you shouldn't have even had to buy the thing tbh

Ok, I tried to create new characters in order to end up in the same real situation I was in the other day, nothing similar happened. So I guess it was one of those weird bugs that do weird things (like the one that remove the heads of Weequay NPCs or elevators not working in specific areas) but disappear after a few hours/days.

To those who were wondering what I was talking about, wanted evidence or outright accused me being on drugs, you'll have to take my word for it. Sorry.

Believe me, don't believe me, that's for you to decide. And since SWTOR customers service believed me and gave me 1000 Cartel Pieces, it has to be a real issue.

One last thing, JawaJoose, go bother someone else with your pathetic insults.
