Hi. I just read that Bioware will stop developing content for the game. That's a shame because I've been playing the game for about a month, like it and wanted to spend money on it.

Uhmm, Broadsword took control of the game late last year, bud.

And no, the game isn't dead, it's still receiving updates, and has a solid playerbase.

It's still in development. Broadsword bought the rights to continue the game. They hired 40 of the SWTOR developers from Bioware to continue working on the game. The SWTOR devs opened up their own office in Austin separate from EA (still the publisher). Technically, they are part of Broadsword, but they basically work independently because Broadsword's offices are in a different state.

Most of the key team members are still there including Keith Kanneg (executive producer), Eric Musco (lead game producer), Jackie Ko (community manager), Ashley Ruhl (narrative director), Caitlin Sullivan Kelly (lead writer), and Joe Stramaglia (systems designer). Some of them work remotely, but they are employed by Broadsword and work on SWTOR.

This all happened around July/August of last year, so everything from 7.3.1 and later have been made at Broadsword. The newest update was 7.4.1c and released April 4, 2024. You can see their newest livestream about 7.4.1 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCBNVHEdvpo

Looking at the Expansions release order which is around 2-3 years. We should see something this year or probably next year. But i don't think it won't be something massive like Fallen Empire tho.

Not "better" per se, but they are just enough that unironically calling the game dead is factually incorrect. Updates, albeit at a slower pace, are on the way.

Despite what diehard fans may tell you it's pretty much dead. What they call content, while technically correct, in fact is a joke. Story is borderline primitive without any interesting characters of plot for that matter. Unless you like "Disney Star Wars", in which case you gonna like what this game devs can offer. Seasons are utter trash and so the most of the Cartel Market items despite being paid only content.
So long story short it IS de facto very dead.

Clearly, the game is thriving if there's a new wave of clowns to revive old threads.
