I don't see it that way now. Most of the time it's just a matter of inflexibility to adapt to change. Personally, I think the changes are very good and I don't have any of the problems you have.
Now if the horrible craft is revised, space combat finally gets sensible flight physics and then an Realm versus Realm system is introduced, then I'm even considering taking out a permanent subscription...
Good thing it's not P2W and makes its revenue off of playing Space Barbie. 😛
I can't tell any difference with my characters. Wouldn't even know about this overhaul if it weren't for people crying about it. Got toons of every race and they all look the same as they did 10 years ago to me.
So maybe people need to rethink their life priorities if they get thus bent out of shape over pretty much nothing.
The official forums are constantly up in arms about everything and anything, especially when the devs dare to add or change something, because it's the favorite pastime of the players that write there since the game is not what they expect it to be at. It's compounded by the fact that you can only write there if you have a running subscription, so the vast majority feels like they have bought their superior status over the casual F2P peasants and thus their opinion is worth more, which is demonstrated by the way you talk about the Steam community.

The darker yellow tone also looks a bit grimy overall, but it's not patchy like the blue one,
