Kotor: Knights of the Old Republic
Swtor: Star Wars: The Old Republic
The trailer for the remake of Kotor was released a few days ago as a teaser trailer by Sony and a PlayStation 5 exclusive only.
Edit: The original trailer was released at the end of 2021.
I hope this helps!
SWTOR takes place 1000 years after KOTOR 2. It's not a direct sequel and isn't trying to be KOTOR 3 (which many of us would have preferred instead), but is just a sort of continuation of the narrative of the never ending war between the Sith Empire and Republic/Jedi. It is largely stand alone and only the Revan DLC attempts to go back and explain the unresolved plot points post KOTOR 2, as we never did get KOTOR 3 (and probably never will).
Should still play the original games, despite their clunky/aged mechanics and interface (it's better on console, thanks to backward compatibility and the better control system).
The original 2 games were hard narrative driven stories. This one has as similar a disconnect with that, structurally speaking, as you could expect an MMO to be. Lots of fetch quests, slow moving plot, and tons of grind in between that slows progression down as well.
The upside/downside on top of that is that it has a larger plot that encompasses all the player classes available, so if you want to experience a more full story you'd have to create at least 1 of each character class to play the campaign and see where their parts in the story take place. (There's an order to them, but I don't know it myself and played blindly as whatever class I felt like playing)
IE: One character class might take part in a set of missions that occur before the other factions mirror character class gets there, so think of it like A and B sides. IE: In at least one situation, a planet in control by one faction ends up being reversed on the B side.
each class has its own story, i know that can confuse ppl later on when they are reaching end of class story and beyond with second char if each char is on opposite faction REP/EMP, cause the stories they hear
