Crew skills clarification, please.
In order to use biotech, I need 3 characters to farm the 2 kinds of materials (from Diplomacy and Bioanalysis) needed for one crafting skill? And all 3 characters need to be roughly the same level to feed that one crafting skill?

Biochem is a crafting crew skill. Diplomacy and Bioanalysis are gathering crew skills. Sending a companion to craft or gather will level that crew skill. Also Biochem can craft medpacs, stims, adrenals and implants.

Here is a link to a Biochem article on swtorista.com, I hope it helps you out. https://swtorista.com/articles/swtor-biochem-crafting-guide/

Yes, you basically need to be an omnicrafter to craft efficiently. It didn't used to be that way, but at one point they felt that crafting for some reason needed to be more complicated and I'll never understand why. No one liked the crafting changes they made and they've never fixed it.

Yes, I understand that, but I'm asking if to get all three as a f2p I would need three separate characters all of the same level?

Ah, I see. Unfortunate.

As f2p you're more restricted unless you buy an unlock that lets you have 3 skills. Character level also doesn't restrict crafting levels. You can technically max out crafting on a level 1, but the problem is you're limited on how many companions you can send out at low levels. At max level you can have 8 companions on missions.

"Free-to-play and Preferred Accounts: If you are on a free-to-play account, you can only choose one crew skill per character, so you might instead take Biochem on one character, and Bioanalysis on another and have them work together, for a total of four character per server. If you’re a former subscriber, you’ll have two crew skill slots available, and if you’re a subscriber you naturally have 3 crew skill slots unlocked per character, so you can take all three complementary crew skills, Bioanalysis, Diplomacy and Biochem all on one character. The other major difference if you are not a subscriber you will only be able to queue one crafted item up at a time – as a subscriber, you can set your companion to craft five items in a row." - swtorista

You would need three characters, one crafter with Biochem. And two other characters with Bioanalysis and Diplomacy. Bioanalysis you can also gather from killed creatures, as well as sending a companion.
