Spent over 3 hours trying to get this game work
I really wanted to try this game, it looke right up my alley.
Well, I've got the press Launch nothing happens issue and I've spent over 3 hours trying to fix it, updating everything, trying every possible fix I've digged on the internet, the LauncherUtility tool, Directx9, C++, edditing settings, bitraider etc etc and I just couldn't get it to work. I'm apparently not the only person having this problem, do they just not care?

if you actually state the PROBLEM ITSELF, via an error code or *anything* useful....

do YOU just not care to state the problem clearly? "apparently I'm not the only one" is a cop out way to approach the issue, when you don't clarify what the issue is to begin with

And the game works perfectly fine for tens of thousands of other folks. Planning on another session in about 30 minutes myself. So when people have an issue, it tends to be something specific in their settings or systems. That can't be fixed unless people are specific with their issues.

Did you make a SWTOR account?.
Did you put your account name and password before clicking launch?.
Check if your account has a pulse by signing into the website.

What are your system specs. Windows version and hardware. What drive do you got it installed on.

First off, I don't appreciate your aggressive attitude towards me so chill down, gamer. I have stated my issue, I press launch and nothing happens, that's all, no error, no nothing. It is apparently quite common issue on Win 11 with this game. I have tried everything there is to find on the internet as to fixes to this exact issue (and there is a ton of people with ton of fixes) and nothing helped so I just gave up.

I do have an account, I can sign into it. You don't put in your credentials before clicking launch, you have to sign in to even see the Launch button, I wouldn't even get to the button if I didn't have a working account.

I am on Windows 11 Home - 23H2 - 22631.4602
As to my graphics driver I have the latest one - Driver Version: 566.36 - Release Date: Thu Dec 05, 2024
I have both the correct C++ and Directx needed for this game installed.
Anything else that may be relevant?

When you say nothing happens, is it just crashing immediately after hitting play or is it actually running a process but just not loading it completely?

That's fascinating. Saying "it's apparently quite common" is...words, but not backed up by much. You expect red carpet treatment for a 14 year old game. And no, I won't chill, I don't appreciate your post in the first place

The launcher disappears, Steam still has the "Stop" button instead of "Launch" which indicates that something is still running in the background but after just like 3 seconds it changes back to "Launch", indicating that nothing runs anymore. No error code, no nothing.

(blocked the other person, dunno what his problem was, but I certainly don't want to be part of it, lol)

never encountered this specific problem myself but reinstalling usually works for me when i have issues

It sounds like its crashing to me. Not really sure what the fix it, but that's what seems to be happening. You can try repairing the steam install and then launch with any overlays you have turned off (steam, discord etc...), otherwise maybe give the native launcher from swtor.com a shot?

The game is no longer DX9, so I wouldn't bother with old C++ redistributable's or old DirectX installs.

do you have an nvidia gpu? i think i have a fix for you, if it's my same error:
- download 'nvidia' app
- go to home->library->see all
- find the entry for swtor and click the green 'optimize' button
- relaunch game, should work!

it has something to do with the game setting itself to a wild resolution like 3630x2000-something. this fix will overwrite the graphics settings with a working resolution

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I will try them when I get home.

Ah ya, that happens sometimes on a fresh install. I forgot it does that. I'd usually have to go into the .ini settings and manually set it to windowed mode to get it to launch then set the settings I want once the game launched.
If you are having issues with launching via Steam. Try downloading the installer from the SWTOR site. After launching it direct it to where you have SWTOR installed. It may download some files to your install folder. Or it might ask to repair or remove, chose repair. Try launching SWTOR and see if that helps.

Some folks have an issue with the launcher being small for some reason. It was something I encountered. I was running at 3840 x2160 resolution. And the launcher was at 640x480 resolution.

Open file explorer, in the address bar type %appdata%. Then go to Local, find the SWTOR directory, and locate the clientsettings.ini file. Edit the file, in the section [Renderer]. Change the Width, Height, and NativeHeight, NativeWidth to match your screen resolution.

I hope that you get to fix your issue and play SWTOR. Happy gaming.
I had the same issue bro, just verify integrity of the files in properties. After it works fine.
