crafting choice
I havent played for a while and was wondering what crafting skills I should choose. biochem had special stims and stuff like that. Is it still the case and lets say I dont need gathering at all which skills would be the best choice? Thanks!

Well for crafting to really work, you need to have the crafting skill AND the 2 gathering skills that feed it. If you google swtor crafting you'll see which feeds which.

Now F2p only get 2 skill slots so either you:
- have multiple characters and play them both to feed the crafter
- run a sub which unlocks the 3rd slot
- buy the 3rd slot unlock per character
go all gathering for money making, sell on the GTN, you don't need to craft anything in the game at all really
If you have 2 crew skills max then bioanalysis and scavenging(they have the most nodes on landscape)
If you have 3 crew skills maxed then both of those and slicing

By the way. When you go to take your skills, visit ALL the crafting NPC's as you get xp from each visit.
Yeah it is like Berserkr says, not sure if you need to craft. With the money you make can easily buy the things you need.

I have several characters and most of them have 3 gathering skills. I do dabble in crafting with 2 of them for artificer for useful mods and armor that I don't really make anything with. Armor is all over the place.
Also I find the mid tier stuff sales better sometimes than the high level crafting material. But your mileage may vary.
Mats will always sell well in any mmo because of lazy high levels with alts so take advantage of it
I remember back in the early times you had very specific things you could only use with the crafting skill like special stims and stuff like that! So this is all removed?
No there are still things you can only get with crafting.
If you have biochem at 600 on the character you can buy or make reusable medpacks, stims and shield adrenals for level 70 and at biochem 700 there are ones for level 75, there was no level 80 crafting as of yet, they're nice but people might not want biochem taking up a crew skill slot
Yeah back in the day there was reusable medical consumables for most level tiers but they aren't craftable or available now
Your best bet is to start with harvesting skills, level them up to 700, and hoard all the crafting materials you get - aim for a stack of 500 per crafting level. Unlearn one of the harvesting skills and pick the crafting profession you want. However, most crafted items have fallen out of sync with the game, stopping at level 75 while the game is now capped at level 80 with nothing crafted that can really be of practical use... except maybe the Command stims? Focus instead on crafting items for Conquests & Strongholds. Guilds buy those items on GTN fast.

Op if you're not a subscriber I wouldn't really even bother putting a lot of time into crafting you can only craft 1 item per companion and max 3 companions at a time per character at a time, subscribers can craft 5 items per companion and 8 companions max for 40 things queued up at once, just do gathering and sell the mats on the GTN
