I'd say it's more friendly to solo players than to groups.
If you do like it, you might actually find this game suits your fancy.
I would say that is a reasonable gamble. Give it a shot!
The upcoming 7.0 update will only only add a few hours more of storyline, so if you don't like to group up with people like me, 7.0 will probably not have much to offer you.
Absolutely worth playing. I started a month ago or so & I love Star Wars. Game is group & solo player friendly. It's hard to play some missions without friends though. So good to socialize with others. You will need their help.
Though I would say subbing gives you the best experience, it is absolutely possible to play every class story completely + two free expansions on your own! Do try it! :)
As an added bonus, if you sub for even one month you gain access to all the previous DLC, So actually worth it. crafting isn't required nor is raiding for gear as most of the stuff you can get from missions will carry you.
SWTOR is worth going through no doubt.
The game seems to have a rather smallish budget and team, so it doesn't enjoy the larger content drops and expansions that, say, WoW and other huge MMOs do. However, it is still actively developed and one is slated for next month.
Due to the voiced story content being one of this game's biggest draws (if not the biggest), it's progressively become more and more solo-friendly over the years. There's still some content you need to be in a group for but the overwhelming majority of the story content is soloable.
Chat is hit or miss. It gets pretty trolly on fleet, coruscant, and dromund kaas. Starter worlds to a lesser extent can also get this way. Chat can be minimized with the click of a button if you don't like it, and the chat settings and preferences menu give you methods to leave certain chat channels like General Chat.
So you may want to wait until the post-patch reviews start rolling in.
for me gear is somewhat secondary as long as there is at least some decent variations and visuals. PvP may burn. And for solo content game is still worth playing.
