Sure there ARE Some MMOs that broke this mould (Neverwinter, ESO, etc...) but this is pretty much typical for the genre.
Camera Angles? I mean seriously. This is your basic third person game.
BDO for exemple let you choice between free camera or this mode.

So... being able to look, run, and attack at three different directions is a skill you'll learn and master as you get more experienced in more difficult contents.

You can also move with the camera following by holding right and left click on the mouse.
Last time I saw someone with your issue it's was only really because he didn't know step/turn weren't the same.
Also you can change the control as you wish in the setting.
I don't see how these control could be that horrible, it's the same in many mmo
You'll get use to it once you master it
