How to transfer from old SWTOR folder to Steam folder.
Find your old swtor folder and find the steam folder (in common) and just drag and drop.

When you're prompted to replace existing files (for me it was around 18) do not replace them. If you do replace them the game will be playable, but it will not connect to Steam's overlay or the time tracker.

Thank you. Time trackers are why I use steam.
anyway to get the overlay to work after you transfer files?

It should work. If it doesn't you probably replaced the launcher Steam installed with the old one from your old swtor folder..
Hey op, cheers for this.

Any idea if we can use our login prior to steam?

I subscribed and made a bunch of characters before it ended, I also played one of the characters for a while and I don't want to start again

Steam will send you to the SWTOR launcher, where you will login as you used to, you're still using that old swtor account. Everything will still be there.

LOL i just deleted the OG launcher to download it on steam and see this
Any idea as to why the launcher is downloading assets regardless of me moving files from the original folder into the steam folder?
Can confirm. Worked perfectly for me.

Could be an update, or just a roundabout file check. Mine did the same, but took me no longer than 15-20 minutes.

This also happened to me, so I changed the name of the steam game folder and verified the files (IMPORTANT: only verify the files when the game folder had been renamed, otherwise steam will delete all files, so you should download all the files again), steam created a new folder and download again the launcher files, I used this files to remplace these in the first folder, I deleted the game folder created again by steam and I reverted the change name in the first folder. Now the steam overlay works with controller support.

I moved the whole SWTOR folder, but I think I put it in the Steam/SteamApps folder (the only one that had a 'common' folder in it) and it didn't work.

Then I went back and looked again, found the Steam folder elsewhere, and it *did* have a common folder (and I found all my other game folders there too, whereas the first one only had a few), and moved the whole SWTOR folder there. I moved it to the Documents/SteamLibrary/SteamApps/common folder where all my other games were.

I then tried to launch the game from the SWTOR site in Steam where it says "Play Now" (not my Library, see below). It would not launch.

So, I tried to launch it from my library (still no connected picture app or timeline--just a grey rectangle with the name there--and tried to launch it) It *would* launch...normally, like before Steam, but the SWTOR launcher says that it is "Reorganizing data"....Not really sure why it has to do that, or if that's good, or bad, or if it's downloading the whole dang thing again like it was on the first try again.

Will keep you informed, but welcome informed suggestions.

Additional:
Played the game yesterday. It launches from my library but does just what it did before: Grey "icon" in library and no update it time.

@phazonfreak: Thanks for your suggestion about Bitraider, but it's been so long ago. I don't *think* I used Bitraider, but maybe on an update? I don't think it worked, even if I did.

I was a Founder, and downloaded as soon as available....however long ago it was when the game first started many, many, MANY moons ago.

I wouldn't know how to check if it was a Bitraider version or not, or if you can even check for that.

In any case, it's not "updating" the time played or the "icon" in the Library, and I sure wish it could. I'm very excited SWTOR is now connected to Steam!

This is only working if you already used the non-Bitraider version of the game. If you used the official Bitraider verison of the game, moving the old files to the new Steam folder will not do anything and the entire download process must be done again, because the Steam version is also non-Bitraider.
