Can't renew subscription
I recently decided to get back into the game after an hiatus and was going to subscribe again, but for some reason the payment won't go through.

I updated to my current payment method and double-checked all the information, but upon clicking continue I am met with the following message:

"An error has occurred while trying to process your request. Please, try again later. {0}"

I have been an ond-and-off subscriber since launch back in december 2011 and this is the first time I've ever encountered this issue.

Any idea why this happens?
I could log into the SWTOR website just fine.

How did you try to subscribe ? It seems that some people have had problems for a few weeks paying their subscription with certain credit cards. But by changing their details on the EA site (username + password) so that they are strictly identical to the account on swtor.com, this would have solved the problem for some people.

I tried via the website, as I have always done before.
Both card and PayPal led to the same error.

So check you that your contact details are correct on EA.com.
If you have never created an EA account, create one especially with the same identifiers as on swtor.

Tried that as well - didn't help.
What I don't understand is why this happens now, seemingly out of nowhere.
I've always paid for subscription via the site and never had this issue before.

I think that either some banks have increased the checks on identifications (even too much) or that there is a problem on certain EA/SWTOR accounts not appearing or even a bug. All this is automated so it is complicated to know...

Clean your browser cache well between each unsuccessful attempt and try with other browsers. Several people have reported the problem on the French EA/answers site, do the same on the one that corresponds to your country or language, the more people who complain the better it will be. You can also try to call the customer service. Good luck !

It solved itself!
PayPal worked on the second try.

When this type issue pops up it is ALMOST always due to a connection can not be made to the server. Since you are involving SEVERAL servers in this type of transaction You most likely will never know which one. (that both your CC and PP would not work would indicate it was on EA's end) Servers have to be maintained and to do that they have to be taken off line. So when you have this happen try again in a few hours or the next day or two. As for the banks checking for identity sadly it is an issue that will only get worse as time goes on. Yes you know you are you but to protect you the bank wants to have safeguards in place. If you have ever had your identity stolen you would understand why they do these things.
