... Because it's not free money? They still need to pay for the devs to update the game, for their support team, the game takes room on their servers which could be used by other games, etc. If the costs are not worth it, first they'll try to sell it to another dev team, and if THAT doesn't work, then they'd shut down the game. What do you think happened to just about every single MMO aside from this, FF14 and WoW?
If you really think they're spending much money on development costs right now on all those cartel market items, I've got a bridge to sell you.
But I know in my heart that will not happen. Just milk till' there's no milk and abruptly close the game.
no but it doesn't mean the game isn't dead. WoW has thousands of PVPers with multiple BGs and arenas going on at all times while SWTOR has maybe 100 online across all servers at any given time. A quick ingame warzone search and you find there is maybe 2-3 wzs going on at a time on Star Forge alone.
WoW has hundreds of thousands of PVers doing high end difficulty content and while SWTOR has maybe 200(?) hitting HMs as part of progression and even less doing NIM - I can say this with confidence from years of playing and knowing alot of people with the majority of the pve players just spamming SM legacy raids, the first boss from DF/DNV on NIM for frags(which idk why game hasnt had a gear, level or actual expansion in 2 years) because even potatoes can clear
WoW has millions of casual pvers doing the same casual stuff I mentioned in SWTOR while SWTOR has a few thousand players doing it
WoW probably has millions of erp fashion players while SWTOR has a few thousand as well.
My horde server of Thrall has 29k active Horde players and 1k Alliance while I can guess my server SF has a few thousands players and I could quickly login to determine this by searching on planets and instances since EA won't show us server numbers
All this and the game was pawned off to a maintenance mode studio and hasn't seen a new raid in years, the removal of ranked PVP(which cost them more players then the pvers will ever know largely because they dont pve and they spout talking points like no one played ranked anyway while Mark Biggs had over 10k subscribers and he was a ranked player whose YT channel was focused on ranked pvp) I would argue he probably has more subscribers now then SWTOR lol
game is very much dead and in maitenance mode from a progression point of view. There is no pvp to progress for and the few people doing NIMs will eventually clear them then probably not play anymore and I mean we havent even seen a class balance patch in HOW LONG? How many more years is this tech meta - Engi sniper 110k crit PT 5 button rotation gona go on?
people will tell you oh but game gets story content every 6 months...yes a few minutes of single player questing etc etc with more of it now being UNVOICED which was the only thing they had going for them while I am halfway through The War Within in WoW and have already seen like 10 voice cutscenes.
Do yourself a favor OP unless you are NIM raiding; unsub. You dont need to pay Broadsword to run some story content every 6 months and you probably have full gear. I have friends to quit 2 years ago and still have full gear.
Game will likely be around for a few more years because of wallet milking ding dongs off the cash shop with canceled season 1 Acolyte cosmetics and other butt ugly gear sets but with an increasingly dwindling population and the biggest whales already have bought everything don't expect to ever see an actual MMO expansion from this game again
