Whichever feels closer to a Raiden like character I'd say. Jedi's have blades, but not any sort of tech. Operative have knives, and plenty of tech.
As to combat. Range is generally easier than melee.
Why not both?
Subscribe and you can unlock a second combat style slot. So pick Smuggler for all the Smuggler related dialogue, storyline and companions. Then pick Operative for your first combat style and then for your second combat style whatever Jedi Knight or Jedi Consular combat style you want.
EDIT: of course you could also stay F2P and just roll a brand new character to see one of the other 8 storylines and then pick Jedi Knight/Consular combat style to see what their playstyles are like.
Ohh thats right my bad, i knew about that but just forgot about that restriction. Guess that means you're rolling a Jedi or Sith storyline if you want to play the Jedi or Sith combat styles.
IMO JK and JC storylines are booooring. If you do decide to roll another character go with either Sith Warrior or Inquisitor storyline. Playing as a lightside SW is funny cause it confuses your companions lol. Or you can do regular darkside playthrough. You can also do sarcastic SW or Inquisitor which is funny. You can go with Jedi or Sith combat styles but i prefer Sith combat styles.
You can only choose from non-force user classes, for non-force user storylines. Vice-versa for force user storylines. So basically, you can't be a jedi smuggler, even as a second class. Just as you can't be a operative knight, even as a second class.
Yah i knew about that but it just slipped my mind. I remember it right away when i go to create a new character though and i see the limitations :P
