New Player, Doesn't Let Me Link Steam Account
Literally just installed SWTOR, never played the game before in my life, but when I try to login with my freshly made account, I get the error "We can't log you in. Please double-check you're using the Steam account you usually play on and try again."

Thing is, I haven't played this game at all before and this is the first time I've had to open an account for it.

What can I try and do, aside from the reinstall that's listed on their website? I'd rather avoid a lengthy reinstallation if I can

Yes, I know. I am trying to figure out if something broke in SWTOR's website redesign or if it is related to the eula.settings file.

Since I have fixed the eula.settings file from getting deleted in Steam (refer to my guide), I am not experiencing the issue others seem to be having regarding SWTOR's Steam Account linking being broken. Only I am not willing to break my own just to figure that out. 😛

I tried it, but thing is I don't have a Steam account Linked, and from what Googling I did, creating an account and then launching the game through Steam should've linked it.

If I click that button, it just says "There is no Steam account linked to your Star Wars™: The Old Republic account." with no way of me externally adding my Steam account.

Again, I just installed the game and have made a fresh SWTOR account, and just cannot do the linking at all.

EDIT: For what its worth, despite accepting the EULA, its not in my SWTOR directory

EDIT 2: I went and downloaded the direct launcher and installed it just enough to get the eula.settings folder, which I pasted in the Steam Directory. Still getting the same error, "We can't log you in. Please double-check you're using the Steam account you usually play on and try again."

Well hopefully we can figure this out... and when we do, I am going to add this to my guide to help others that are stuck in the same boat, because this is ridiculous how these old issues related to SWTOR and Steam are becoming more widespread. And I hope you don't mind assisting me in the meantime.

If it makes things easier for you, feel free to add me as a friend in the meantime. 😀

Okay... just to be clear on the steps you already took, you created an account at SWTOR's website and clicked the button labeled Steam Account? Would you mind getting a screenshot of the area that you're describing so I can see what it looks like? (if you're in WIndows, use the Snipping Tool so none of your personal information is showing, then upload it as Steam Artwork after you save your snip as an image.) Here's a quick link if you need it: https://account.swtor.com

Yesterday I installed SWTOR for the very first time. Before this, I had never even played the game nor have I made an account for it. This was a fresh new account, created on the SWTOR's Website.
When I go into the SWTOR Website, and click on the 'Steam Account' button, it tells me that no account is tied to my SWTOR account.
When I go into the SWTOR Login on Steam, it tells me that this isn't the Steam Account I usually use to login into SWTOR - from what I understood, doing the login on Steam is supposed to authenticate it.
I had downloaded the direct launcher from the SWTOR website - I can log in fine on this. When I logged in, it started doing another installation, which I interrupted partway through to copy the eula.settings file to add to my Steam Directory, since I read that that can sometimes resolve the issue as well, but its still present.

I've sent you a friend request, I don't mind talking about it when you have the time (might be playing smth else with the missus, though), including sending over the screenshots.

Mint user and dev here.

Yeah i have the same issue. I have no eula file, no linkage whatsoever. I created a new account and i have no steam account linked eiter (It seems that no communication between the client and the SWTOR Login Service has happened). It appears that the launcher via steam is simply broken, since the native launcher is doing fine on the pc of my companions. This is a very frustrating issue, that i hope will be fixed by the devs asap since this is an obstacle for potential new customers to really enjoy and play the game.

Thank you for additional work on it.

I've contacted EA Support & Steam redirects you there too...and its just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI in such a way that Skynet would be more helpful by way of making sure it wouldn't be a problem for me anymore :P lol

But on the serious side, I got the OG launcher, and I can launch it that way completely fine, no issues.

I've ran Steam with the OG launcher installed, deleted it then launched, deleted the Steam & reinstalled, no fix. So I got no idea what the issue is without some in-depth answers from Steam or EA...or maybe it was the global outage?
