New Gaming Laptop - Stuttering and lagging makes game unplayable
Hi all!

I just bought a new gaming laptop with a 13th gen i5 and an RTX 4050. 16GB DDR5 ram. I went straight to SWTOR as this is my favorite MMO and it was unplayable. My internet connection is good and I have a more than good enough machine to run it, so I assume.

But as soon as I created my character and loaded in to Tython, it was unplayable. The stuttering and lagging was so bad I could barely move. Even moving my mouse across the screen was lagging. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I don’t think it’s my hardware or internet connection. Thanks in advance for all the help, I just want to get back to playing SWTOR.

To add if it helps, the machine I got is the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16.

The game might need so little of your systems ressources, that it's not using the accelerated grafics chip to play but some onboard chip.
Make sure its allocated to use the right grafics option and it should work (usually set in your driver software).

Open the Nvidia control panel, select "Adjust Image settings with preview" and "Use the advanced 3D image settings". Then, from "Manage 3D settings" select "High-performance Nvidia processor" from the drop down and scroll down the Global settings and select "prefer maximum performance" on the Power management setting and apply the setting.

If that doesn't work, then try searching for "Graphics settings" in Windows. Select SWTOR, options, and choose "High Performance".

This fixed it! Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it!
Gaming laptops are piss poor functionality, get a desktop pc with Win10

Took me months to realize Windows 11 why brightness setting don't work

*cough* windows 11 is the new Windows 8 redone = it doesn't do anything new, runs like garbage and in the worst case brakes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of stuff.
Lucky users like you are the exception ^^

we learned: (3.11) ~ 95 (!) > 98 << 2K >> VISTA << 7 >> 8 << 10 >> 11
Let's hope the next windows gets the cycle done :)

edit: game is old, you could try to fiddle around GPU-scheduling, a few games are very hardcore on that setting. (Horizon comes to mind = halves you FPS)
*uhm* settings/display/ option below: graphics settings/ enable GPU scheduling

read about it first! if you really, really wanna enable it.

Read readdit!! there are often a few hints about what you can tune up.
your setup sounds solid, running a 11.4F / 1070Ti with no issue....worked even fine on my old 4670K + same card.

reddit!

Not sure what could be going on there.

My RTX 3060 laptop runs the game just fine. You could try setting the game to low and then increasing each setting, one by one, until you come across an issue.

I ended up going into Nvidia control panel and turning some stuff down, you can youtube "nvidia control panel best settings for gaming" there are videos showing you how to change settings I do it for most unity games, swtor and other mmos, once you have the overall settings in then you just have to change 4 things per game, two spots where you cap max fps, one spot where I tell it to use optimal power setting and low latency mode I turn on, my swtor temps dropped by at least 30 on the cpu and gpu after that and it's been smooth sailing ever since, just a suggestion

I feel you. That control panel stuff will really eat up a lot of performance if you turn everything on.

I'll check out that vid, much appreciated for the share .

Probably you have to install new drivers, I know that when there's an update in Geforce Experience drivers, I updated my GPU driver than I was lagging. So I re downloaded the drivers again and it works I don't lag at all
Install the SD Studio Drivers from NVIDIA, not the game ready ones. They LOVE to make us test subjects and report bugs that supposed to be fixed before the release in the first place

Have the same GPU 3060 and SD drivers are rock solid, as they NVIDIA's main focus, no problems with games.
